Review For: Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS / IXUS 220 12.1 MP Digital Camera - Red
I was looking for a small camera that I could carry with me on my trips around the world. I took lots of pictures with it and I can say, this camera is woth every cent. Landscapes, portraits, snapshots with friends and especialy pictures in barely lighted romms are fantastic. This camera captures these moments really good.
The different modes are also pretty useful. Amplifying colors or using the filters are nice things to play with, the results look like they were taken by a much more expensive camera.
The only wekness are pictures in total darkness. Like taking a picture of a city skyline at night and far away. There is just no way to get enough light on the sensor. But as I said, pictures in bars, restaurants and on low lighted streets are no problem.

I bought this camera for its price point, and I'm fully satisfied. Before that I had the Powershot SX130 IS, and this one's picture quality is much better. So the good points according to me, compared to other cameras I've used:
1. Shots taken at night are really impressive (no noise problems whatsoever).
2. Awesome battery life.
3. Very small, really easy to carry around.
4. Does not lag at all when processing images, so several pictures can be taken without much waiting in between.
5. Slow-motion video is a cool feature.

The only problem I experience with this camera is that sometimes, the white balance is not very accurate, and my pictures tend to look slightly warm/yellowish, but that can be corrected on any editing software.

Simply amazing.

First, I must state that my old camera is about 4 years old, so my enthusiasm must be tempered by the fact that I have no other experience with modern cameras, ... BUT!

This things low light capability is unreal. That's why I bought it in the first place, but it is so much better than I could have hoped for.

I use It mostly for museums and "live" bands in bars, and it is superb with the flash switched off.

in "good" light it is as good, or better than my old Canon, or even my (older yet) Konica 35mm, SLR.

The video abilities are more than anyone can ever ask for for a "primarily" still camera, and are better than my 2 year old Sony Camcorder.

If there are any "real" downsides to this camera (compared to other point and shoots), I have yet to find them,

I couldn't be happier, particularly since I did about a months worth of (HEAVY) internet research prior to buying the SD4000IS, and (as far as the price of a camera goes), cost was not even a consideration.

A truly great camera.

Review For: Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS / IXUS 220 12.1 MP Digital Camera - Red
This is a good camera, I bought this mainly because of its high rating among cameras of similar price range. I used to have a Sony camera before which was quite old but it had more options when you are not shooting with automatic settings. But I guess less is better cause then you will have less changes to make.

The camera is very slim, which I personally do not like because I feel there is nothing in my hand, but I am sure it is a turn on for many. Also deleting photo is quite a lengthy process, which is irritating.

If you are buying, buy the red one - it stands out and is good looking, black and silver is too common.

Review For: Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS / IXUS 220 12.1 MP Digital Camera - Red
I took this camera (my wife has her own ELPH too) on two vacations, shot hundreds of pictures, used a variety of settings, in a wide variety of situations, and ended up with some really nice pics. The auto setting works very well in most situations. Picture quality is very good when the lighting is neutral or dim. When I was shooting a subject with a very bright background, the subject always turned into a silhouette. A forced flash made it work, but the results were much different than what I was seeing. The compact size is one of its best features. I was able to tuck into my pocket and climb to the top of a mountain without any problem or hassle. The 5x zoom comes in really handy. Got some great shots when we went to the zoo.

Be sure to use the supplied wrist strap! My 3 year old grandson, in his joy and excitement, accidentally knocked my first ELPH 300 out of my hand - because of course I didn't use the wrist strap. It hit the ground with enough force to ruin the lens. Had to buy another one before we headed off on our trip, hence, the third camera. I ALWAYS use the wrist strap now.
