No manual exposure controls; no optical viewfinder.
"While the Canon PowerShot SD870 IS doesn't have an optical viewfinder or manual exposure controls, it captures beautiful images with its wide, 3.8x optical zoom lens and ranks among the top compact cameras we've seen."

This is my third Canon Powershot sd870. This first one went overboard on a cruise and the second one got left behind in a hotel room. I have tried many other point and shoot cameras of all types and sizes but this is by far the best camera I have ever used.
- Picture quality is excellent.
- The three inch screen makes reviewing your shots so much better.. its amazing what half an inch can do.
- And it has all the features you could want.
I would buy a used sd870 over any other newer model.
I bought this camera as a back-up for an identical one that I've had since 2008. I've been extremely satisfied with the original and only purchased this one after I fell while on a trail this summer with the camera in my pocket. Of course, the ground and I met at precisely the point where the camera was resting. After making sure I was in one piece I took out the camera(apprehensively) and turned it on. It still functioned perfectly but had a damaged area on the screen. I was afraid that this would get progressively worse, so began shopping for a replacement. The good news is that the original camera continues to perform like a champ AND the replacement is doing the same--without the screen blemish of its older sibling.
There is really nothing for me to dislike about this Canon. It is easy to handle, its functions are pretty intuitive, and goodness knows, it's sturdy.
I've owned other digital cameras, but this is by far my favorite and most reliable. As an added plus, the battery lasts a long time, whether for a long day of shooting or while sitting idle for weeks between uses. I'm very happy that I got the replacement rather than buying a newer, different camera.
The first Cannon Power Shot SD870 that I had purchased was about 4 years ago... and I still have it, it's a little scratched up but still works great!! So far its the only camera that has the best video sound, not all distorted!! I wanted another one that was in better cosmetic condition, so I found one just like my old one,in great condition on EBay and at a very good price... love it!!
It's a great little camera! If I hadn't sat on my original ELPH I wouldn't have needed this one. Since I had all the accessories for mine (case, extra memory, batteries etc.) I thought it a better deal to simply replace mine w/ another from Ebay.
This camera is spectacular. It takes amazing pictures, at a cheap prize for such a great camera. It looks nice, has many settings, and is very portable.
If you love taking pictures but dont want to invest in a $600 professional camera, then this is a must.
