Tiny, attractive design; well-priced.
No marked improvements from previous model.

Bought this camera used on E-bay but it looks brand new! Got a great price too! Went on vacation and started using it right away. Small, light, easy to operate. Loaded with features. It's east, point and shoot. It came with a battery pack and a charger. No more buying batteries, Woo Hoo! My old camera was hard to see the screen at night and what I was taking a picture of. Tells you how old it was. This has 14 mega pixels. It has a very nice screen. Built in flash, no pop-up like I had. I just love it. Got to go and down load more pics from our last vacation.
Seeing at that this camera has now dipped to sub-$150 prices, it is a steal. Though the fisheye & miniature modes are more parlour tricks than anything (anything to be taken seriously), the camera is still feature-rich and can accomodate most any shooting situation.
The main drawback here is easily one of the selling points: the ergonomics. Being edgeless, the camera is more difficult than would like to stand on its own (this failing renders the self-timer function all but useless). Duly, if you have large hands, operating the mini-sized buttons can be an irritant. This really can't be understated; the buttons on the camera are flush, leaving less room for 'feeling out the buttons' as to not have to take your concentration off the subject you are shooting rather than having to focus on not accidentily turning the camera off... for example.
All in all, you certainly get $150 worth. Just be advised: the technology inide the camera far outpaces the handling outside the camera.
My fellow readers!
The 5 star ratings is for the same Canon Elph camera which is made in Japan!
That is the camera i have now and it,s a phenomenal little number. Bought on US ebay.
The camera in the picture is the camera i've bought before, on AU ebay, exactly the same model Canon, only made in China.
Ebay requested me to write a review so i'm making a distinction between Japan & China made.
You see, Canon produce same models at home in Japan and also in China. I,m confident the factories set up is exactly the same, so is the quality control.
My first Elph Ixus 130 was made in China and after 6mnts of gentle use the shutter stuck, camera useless, repair cost estimate -$180.00
Instead i've bought another Elph Ixus 130, this one made in Japan, it works better, does few extra tricks (same model!) and i'm convinced, in it's range it's the best camera there is.
I,ve had few point & shoot Canons in my time and japanese ones outlasted made in China and were either given away or sold, all working.
The chinese made ones simply packed up, fine, no offence.
But paying $350-S450 for new Ixus and using for 6 months only to end up with dead sensor and stuck shutter.. you be the judge.
Have a look where is it made before you buy, australian market is overun by made in China cameras but if you look on US ebay, most cameras are made in Japan and better priced.
I,m not an expert and talk from my own experience only.
But i did owned many Canons and i,ve made my mind. Go Canon!
You are welcome to make yours.
My Previous Camera was a Canon Rebel which was a great camera BUT during the past couple of years I have discovered that I do not take nearly as many pictures as I used to. Why? Well mainly because the rebel is so big and whenever I go somewhere I don't want to be committed to carrying this expensive camera around every where I go. It is very large and bulky, and for a guy it is like carrying around a purse! Every time that I found myself in a situation where I wanted to take a picture I always realized that my camera was at home.
However, this is NOT the problem with the CANON PowerShot SD 1400 14.5 Megapixel! What amazed me the most when I opened this camera out of the box was it's size!!! It is SO COMPACT!!! It is just as small as a cell phone!!! So whenever I go somewhere I just put it in my pocket just in case I want to take some pictures, and usually I do!
This camera does all of the work. It is a "point and shoot" camera. It has many built in shooting modes. So whatever situation you might be in, it knows and will choose the right setting automatically so that you will get the best picture possible. You don't have to worry about changing the settings from this mode to that mode, and you don't have to worry about being an expert at photography when you own one of these cameras. It literally does all of the work for you.
Next, I'd like to mention that this camera makes very good videos. Just the other day I made a video of my Yellow Napped Amazon Parrot, and I was amazed when I plugged it into the computer at how clear the video was in comparison to other digital cameras that do video.
Lastly, I'd like to mention something about the 14.5 megapixels. I have several pictures on my computer that I have made in the past from cameras which lower resolution, but with the 14.5 megapixels I can zoom in really close on my computer to crop the photo and it is still very clear and shows extreme detail. I took a picture of my parrot the other day and the camera was able to capture so much detail that I could zoom in and see very clearly the bird's eye lashes.
By far this is my favorite camera that I have ever owned. With this item you are getting "so much camera" for the price. I am very pleased with my purchase and would advise anyone who is looking to purchase a camera to look at this model, because I have been very pleased with mine.
