Attractive, ultracompact design; easy operation; well-rounded, basic feature set.
Photo quality dips above ISO 200; flat buttons can be difficult to press accurately.
Simple and stylish, the Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS is a fine back-pocket camera as long as your photo-quality expectations are reasonable.

I purchased this camera for it's size, features, cost and operational simplicity. I wanted a camera that I could easily fit into my pocket that was capable of rendering good quality photographs. The Canon PowerShot SD1200 does just that. I haven't used it extensively at this point but what pictures I have taken have been very good. The camera is fully automatic so basically point and shoot for good results. This model also features a View Finder which most sub compact cameras do not have. This feature is nice when the LCD screen is bathed in bright sunlight and is hard to view.
The software package that comes with the camera is a simple and straight forward photo collection program to include a minimal photo editing program. It works well and again, is simple.
I would purchase the Canon PowerShot SD1200 10.0 Megapixel Camera again for nothing more than the above mentioned features and ease of use.
So, after reading reviews, I thought this camera would be great, however, I was very dissapointed. For about $50 more, you can get the Canon Powershot SX120, or SX100, which both are much better. After owning 5 Canon Camera's, this is by far the very worst.
The reason I dislike this camera, is that the night time shots turn out awful, pictures without the perfect lighting, will show "Glary eyes," and most all pictures I have taken were blurry. You must first push half way down, then all the way down for it to auto focus properly. I can promise you that anyone else taking a picture for you from this camera, will come out blurry, as they will not know how to properly take the picture.
I took this camera to my daughters dance class, and the camera couldn't take a crisp shot for anything.
This camera's size and weight is great, and is a good camera for "Still" posed shots, but if you are like me, and like taking action shots of your children, or take pictures outside at night, or even in bars during karaoke- this camera will disappoint you very much.
The SX120 is a little larger, but definitely worth it for the quality of the pictures. I feel like I've missed out on some really good photos due to having this camera. (I bought this one after I dropped another Canon Powershot sx100, so I could almost immediately tell the difference)
Again, this may be a good camera for a teenager, or for posed shots, but if you like to take pictures in the middle of those special moments, please don't waste your money on this camera.
