Expanded Product Features
Expanded Product Features
  • Canon HD camera system
See the benefits of the Canon HD camera system. The combination of a 3.3-megapixel Full HD CMOS sensor, a 15x optical zoom Canon HD video lens, and the super-fast DIGIC DV III processor delivers superb Full HD movie quality. On the highest quality setting, movies are captured at 24Mbps.
  • Great videos made easy
User-friendly technologies make shooting HD easy. Instant AF achieves pin-sharp focus quickly, while a Super Range OIS prevents camera shake from ruining shots. Powered by DIGIC DV III, Face Detection technology optimizes shooting settings for perfect people shots - up to 35 faces in a frame.
  • Video Snapshot
Video Snapshot makes creating movies to share easy. Every time the record button is pressed, a short 4 second clip is captured. Simply add clips to a playlist, select a soundtrack, and your movie is instantly ready for playback on a TV - no need for editing on a PC.
  • Creative options
The LEGRIA HF200 supports the expanded color space of x.v.Color. When movies are played back on a compatible HD TV, colors look better than ever. Choose 25p cinema mode to make movies that have the traditional look of film, or for improved low-light shooting.
  • Still shooting
Shoot high resolution 3.3-megapixel photos. Or, in Dual Shot mode, capture 2-megapixel stills at any time during video recording without changing modes - controls are set to automatic to make it easy. Photo Burst grabs 25 stills from a second of recorded footage.
  • Better audio
A microphone input lets you attach an external microphone to record better audio - monitor levels using the headphone jack. Manual audio controls offer even greater precision.

Reviews & Research

CNET Editors' reviewExcellent

  • THE GOOD

"Broad manual feature set unusual in a camcorder its size; excellent video quality; attractive, functional design."

  • THE BAD

    Relatively expensive.

  • THE BOTTOM LINE

"While it's more expensive than its sub-$600 competitors, the Canon Vixia HF20 and Vixia HF200 deliver a more extensive feature set for the extra money. The HF200, which lacks internal memory, is probably a better buy than the HF20, though the HF20's all-black body is a bit classier looking."

Great to capture all moments, spoken and acted out. Wonderful ...EVERYTHING

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I changed to a Canon from a 5 year old Sony. Love THIS Camcorder. Have not yet downloaded movies to computer and have to say I'm a bit intimidated about it, but overall I think this camera is great. I have the wide angle lens(extra piece) and can't take it off, love the depth and width of shots. Camcorder/camera performs wonderfully, easy to hold, light-weight enough while still feeling like your holding a well-made electronic. I purchased based on reviews of sound quality being high for novice users, and absolutely agree!! You can hear every word our 3 yr old says and the babel of little sis too. Wanted to be able to capture the signature vocal moments of our kids and this camera perform in both image and sound. Would highly recommend to a friend and well I would recommend to someone I wasn't friends with too!!

    A True Five Star CAmera!

    Five Star Camera!

The Canon HF200 without a doubt is a super feature packed true full HD camera. I have this camera and paid more than I should have, but do not regret the purchase. At the Canon factory website (Shop usa canon) they are selling factory refurbished, good as new, HF200 for $349.99 includes shipping and warranty. I know someone who bought hers on ebay for around $400 and you can't even tell it was used. Bottom line is you can't go wrong with a fully functional Canon HF200 bought for under $450.00, or even $600 for that matter. These 1080 cameras rock! I didn't do a spec review on the HF200 because you can find that anywhere, but I did point you in the direction of where you can find it for $350.00, and that is the best advice anyone is going to give you.

    Have Camera . . . will Travel . . . a Lifetime of Memories

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

We have purchased two of these cameras because we take many trips and always want to have equipment ready for the next adventure. This is a great camera and we have recorded many, many wonderful events with it. We will leave copies of our films/DVDs for our five children, our nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren to remember us after we are gone. We also use a Canon Elph for digital photos, but action movies are much more exciting. Warren and Sally Duerbeck

I've had a great experience with this camcorder.

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I bought this camcorder for general purposes and so far, it has blown me away with its picture quality. The camera does exceptionally well in daylight conditions; however, in low light conditions, the camera performs okay. This camera has shutter speed as well as aperture options which would come in handy when dealing with low light levels. I once filmed an indoor Christmas concert in low light conditions and the camcorder was able to capture all the highlights and detail. This camcorder has a good microphone with the option to attenuate the sound. The battery life isn't the best, but you can always buy a better, longer lasting battery. Overall, good picture quality, great sound quality, and with a bit of tweaking, good low light performance. The menu is easy to use and is user friendly. Great camera for what it's worth.

Great camera if you can find a REAL SD card

I love this camera, already have the HF20 version which has a 32gb internal flash drive. I wanted another one and the HF200 is the same camera without the internal flash memory. The camera shoots excellent HD video, great zoom and very small and lightweight. I figured I could use the SD HD Class 10 cards I was using in my Canon T1i. NO DICE, explained below.

I had 2 Class 10 SD cards that don't work. Why, they are FAKE, yes many of the SD cards sold out of China are FAKE, they are actually a Class 2 or 4 card relabeled as Class 10 and not fast enough to shoot HD video. My buddy just bought 2 16gb Class 10 Transcend cards and they are fake too, he bought them off Amazon. The vendor is giving him a refund immediatly, probably knows they are FAKE.

I understand this camera also has problems with REAL Transcend branded cards. If you are thinking of a Canon Vixia HF200 I would suggest you get the HF20 with the internal memory and avoid the Memory Card issue. Finding a real 32gb SD HD Class 10 card will probably cost over $100 which makes the HF20 a better deal.
