I bought the T4i as an upgrade to my T3i. By comparison, the two biggest improvements were to the shutter and AF system.
The faster shutter is also quieter, which I actually like more than the speed. It sounds a lot like the 60D, and is almost as fast. However if you are looking to do a lot of burst shooting the 60D has a better buffer size to accommodate, where the T4i is somewhat limited in this regard
Autofocus for shooting stills seems to be a bit faster than what the T3i was able to do.
As for the hybrid CMOS sensor, live view and movie mode AF has certainly improved over the T3i, but it is still just a consumer level feature. Anyone expecting to make quality videos with an SLR is still going to have to focus before they shoot. The fact that this hybrid sensor was released on the XXXD series (generally entry level), rather than the XXD or XD series should be some what of an indicator as to how useful a professional would find this feature.
The touch screen is actually more useful than I first thought it would be. Instead of hunting for the right setting with the arrow buttons, you can jump right to it with the touch of your finger. Possibly the biggest advantage of the touch screen is that you are able to change settings while recording video silently, as opposed to pushing noisy buttons.
My son owns a Canon Rebel T3I and after using it I purchased the Rebel T4I camera for the auto function and quality of pictures.
I am not a professional. I am a Grandfather of 3 and a normal regular user. I want the best photo quality I can get in the automatic mode.
I purchased the T4I and 50mm lens kit approx $750. I purchased the Canon 18-135mm EFS STM lens approx $350. With the Camera and the 18-135mm lens I am in Photo/Movie heaven. The image quality, range 18-135mm, stabilization and quiet fast focus of this lens is superb. The low light function of the camera is excellent. I am amazed at the clear photos and movies I have taken. The ease of use with the touch screen and roto dial is very helpful. I bought and installed a UV lens to add on and protect the Canon 18-135 Lens from scratches and UV burn out.
This Canon EOS Rebel T4i DSLR camera has the same features that the Canon EOS Rebel T3i has and then add some. I've used this DSLR camera as a still camera and as a video camera and the results are amazing. The one feature that drawn me to go wit the Canon EOS Rebel T4i was the hybrid censor that triggers auto focus during video mode. the second was the five frames per second burst mode, which is a lot of fun to use. The ouch screen on these DSLRs was an extra feature that the Earlier DSLRs did not have. I would recommend this Camera to first time users who are getting into DSLR Photography. I am an SLR user and I support using DSLR cameras because of their image quality. The only thing that is missing is the smart shutter on the EOS series which is very minor when you have all these awesome features for an entry DSLR camera.
It is the first time going from a Nikon to anything and I felt this was so easy to use. Not sure about the actually photos printed cause I have not printed them out on a large format or even a 4 X 6. I am planning on getting so images. The lens make the camera. So if you are going to buy this or any $500 or up camera invest in the lens first or buy a package deal to get started. Wide angle, tele and a portrait lens are great. Fisheye lens is a great one too. Take a class and learn every thing about the camera to get what you paid for - it will bring :joy and happiness! This camera is a good value.
This is an outstanding camera! I purchased it to replace an older Canon 30D. It's lighter weight, has better performance at higher ISO ratings, and has useful features like the HDR - to improve capability of photographing scenes containg both bright as well as dark areas. The flexible touch screen on the back is handy, as well. Altogether I'm very pleased.
