I have owned a 1D Mark III for many years and I wanted to upgrade to higher level without giving up the 1.3X crop factor. The 1D Mark IV was the ideal choice.
I purchased the Mark IV from KEH on eBay, and the product was exactly as they described.
The Mark IV is a very good combination of mega-pixels, low noise, fast and accurate auto focus and added features.
really good DSLR with an incredible sensor (SPECS seem rahter low, but it's not always quantity, but also quality of pixels) I like it for it's incredible autofocus capabilities, its possibility to shoot on 2 cards, limiting possibilities of ISO, Time and Aperture Range, etc. simply an incredible workhorse. BTW, 12800 ISO produces usable image results!
If you're shooting sports, indoors or out, couple the Mark iV with a 70-200mm f/2.8 and you'll capture amazing shots. at 10 frames per second, you will grab every action sequence you need to photograph the perfect moment.
The body is substantial and feels good in my hands, but would be considered heavy by most when coupled with a fast lens. You may find a monopod to be an essential accessory.
I bought this camera as a companion/replacement for the 1D Mark III. This body has better focusing accuracy and resolution than the III and I like the new informational display on the back. Anyone familiar with high end Canon bodies that they are heavy, but the sturdiness built in to these bodies makes it worth it. Also if you are familiar with Canon products you know you are paying premium prices for them, but in line with Nikon or other top end products.
I love Canon products, but if I didn't have so much invested I might try Nikon.
This purchase was an intended upgrade from a Canon 1D Mark III and my goodness what an upgrade it was. This camera is everything it is advertised to be - quick, sharp, responsive and an incredible performer in low light. The first few photos I snapped right out of the box were low light, mid-range ISO shots in the corners of a dimly lit room and the camera performed beyond my expectations; almost as if night vision were installed. I'm thrilled and looking forward to getting this camera in the gym to photograph basketball which is its intended use.
