In 2004, this camera was the cream of the crop, nothing topped it in the 35mm dSLR area. This thing is heavy, has awesome autofocus and shutter speed and the image quality is great. This is an awesome investment for about 600-700 bucks today you can get the body, a battery and charger and go take pics like a pro! I came from a digital rebel and can not look back. Before you buy this camera though, think about how much money you will have left over because you are going to need some good fast glass to compliment it. A 70-200 4.0 non-is L is probably the best lens you can find for around 600 and the image quality on that is insane.
Fantastic camera body! AF is very quick and accurate along with 8fps shutter...perfect for sports photography which is why I purchased it. Even though the megapixel count looks low (8 Meg) don't let that fool you. The images this camera produces are sharp and vibrant for even very large prints such as 11x14. Used prices are low enough to provide a professional experience for point-and-shoot prices. The build of the camera is fantastic as well and is made to last for many years. The 1D Mark II N is one of my favorite canon bodies and stands the test of time.
