If you are looking for a lens that can do magic you've found it. The canon EF 135mm f2 L glass is the best lens I've used in all aspects from image sharpness to colours and contrast it produces. The images made with this marvelous piece of equipment are truly special. My advise is to look around some of the photography web sites or Google for sample images so you can get a feel of what people are talking about when they say how special this lens is.
In short:
*Extremely sharp even wide open (and almost dangerous around f4)
*Light weight (compared to other L glass)
*Excellent colours and contrast in images (you won't need PS or other software as much, trust me!)
*Great value for money (nothing comes even close to this lens as far as value is concerned, arguably some of the best glass out there and for a steal!)
One thing you might find a bit odd is the focal length which does require a bit of getting used to but it is far from a deal breaker!
If you want to learn a bit more about the 135 L I also suggest visiting photozone.de where you can find a very useful in depth analysis of this wonderful lens.

This is by far the best lens I've used with my 5D Mark II. No wonder it's called the king of all L lenses. I can comfortably shoot wide open at f/2.0 and still get shocking sharp images. Step down to 3.5 or 4.0, then we are talking about forensic details. In fact, the picture come out so sharp, I often need to use bump up the skin smoothing in Lightroom during post processing. It's perhaps the best lens from canon to capture the beauty of human eyes too.
It's well known for indoor sports and portraits. I have the 24-70 L, 70-200 f/4L IS, and 50mm f/14. But the 135mm L stays on my camera most of the time. It's just the sharpness, but also accurate color rendering plus just mesmerizing color saturation. Yes, it's an odd focal length, but I like it so much, I do the zooming with my legs. Its legendary reputation is well warranted.

Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM
Created: 07/04/06
The sharpest lens Canon makes. Very sharp even wide open, and at f/2 it provides beautiful background blur and good low light shooting. I use it everyday on each outdoor senior portrait I do. If the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM is too pricey for you, and you don't mind a fixed length lens, this is the lens for you. A close second would be the 200mm f/2.8L USM fixed lens, with almost identical design, but at a longer focal length.

The perfect mix of the 70-200L and the 85L

I had a 70-200 f/2.8L that I used for fashion shootings in location, but it wasba pain to carry arround so it stood most of the time sleeping in my studio. I bought this as a replacement for it and the 85mm f/1.2L (since this lens and the 85L give about the same bokeh).
Result? I sold the 85L and the 70-200L
The reason is simple: this lens focuses at least three times faster than the 85L (focusing speed reminded m of the 85 1.8) and due to the zoom compression, gives the same bokeh as the 85L. Feels like using the focal lenght of the 70-200L, but without the heavy weight and wider aperture.
It's not 1.2, but I have other fast lenses, so low light is not an issue.
if you are looking for a great fast-focusing L prime, look no further. This lens deserves its reputation.
Along with the 24L and 50L it's all you'll ever need for any kind of job. Period.

Amazing piece of glass. Absolute *magic* on full frame
Created: 08/18/10
I absolutely love this 135L on my 5D. This lens is great for subject isolation and background blur. The "bokeh" created by this is super creamy and smooth. There is something indescribable about this lens and the only way to describe is that its absolutely "magical" on full frame. The lens is super sharp wide open at F/2.0. The colors and contrast are what you would expect of a lens of this caliber. The build quality is top notch and "L" quality as expected. The auto-focus on this lens is lightening fast and never misses or hunts in low light. This lens is one of the most legendary Canon lenses ever made. If your thinking about getting this lens, don't think, just buy it! You wont regret owning this amazing piece of engineered glass. This lens is definitely here to stay in my bag or a long time.
