I did a bit or research before purchasing and the Canon LIDE 100 lives up to its reviews. This scanner, although it is tiny, is a powerhouse for the price!! The USB cable also powers the unit and it scans photos and text quite well. I would highly recommend this scanner for the home office, because the OCR is superb, as well as those who wish to scan photos for posting on websites, etc. This is a great scanner for those who are also on the go, its highly portable and can fit into a large laptop case. If you are looking to professionally scan photos, buy a high-end scanner, this is not for you.
This scanner is excellent for everyday use. You plug in the USB cable, download and install the (free) proprietary software (MP Navigator EX 2.0), and you're good to go. I'm running mine with a WinXP64 computer. It reads color photos and b&w documents from the start and allows saving as a PDF with some additional (free) downloaded software.
The only complaint I have is the noise. The scanner "arm" sounds like it is scraping the glass when it moves during a scan. This might be normal, but is unnerving nonetheless.
I have not been able to work the four "automatic" buttons on the front, but that might be a software issue.
Comes with USB cable something that many canon printers dont but should. I would rate the software excellent except for one thing you must go into the control panel go to folders and delete cannot delete with the canon software.The scanner has 4 buttons copy scan pdf e mail you can scan and send e mail direct from the scanner but only if your using out look express. Does well with pictures and text does an excllent job of copying text scanner to printer once you get the dark light bar adjusted you wont be able to tell the difference from the original. One more thing this scanner is windows 7 compatible.
Compact. Easily portable. Works quickly. Easy to use. highly recommend this scanner! It can be carried in your PC bag easily. Virtually trouble free.
This scanner is really nice ONLY if you're looking for a scanner that does one job and does it nicely.
What I like:
- It construction is very simple yet the scanner does its job and produces high quality scans.
- It is also very light and durable (as much as a scanner can be)
- It looks good and is a great addition to a nice desk or work area.
What I dislike:
- Software included is a little confusing, had problems setting what type of program to show scanned images in.
- Can be fairly difficult to find drivers for (if you lack cd) seeing as many versions of it are out there.
- The price (although the quality is good)
Conclusion: This scanner is definitely a good buy if you're looking for something to get the job done quickly. I would highly recommend it, however, I would also suggest seeking out another scanner if the price is out of your range.
