Finally, A More Traditional-Looking Callaway Iron!
Created: 07/13/06
Having played MP33 blades for several years, I was impressed with the smaller, pro-type heads and notched cavity-back weighting of the X-Tours. As you know, most tour pros have switched to cavity-back irons for more forgiveness these days. (Hey, the truth hurts!) The X-Tours are slightly more forgiving than traditional blades, especially in the long irons. The set up makes shot shaping easy. You get good feedback from miss hits, though not the buttery feel of blades from center hits.
The X-Tours feel heavier than other irons, but they appear to be more durable. With the X-Tours, shots fly higher than traditional blades and shorter, noticeably shorter than you would expect with a Callaway iron. In fact, your shots will stop perhaps one-half club or more shorter than with Callaway X-18s. In addition, the notch-back cavity creates a channel between the weight and the clubface that makes cleaning a bit of a pain.
I owned the X-18 Pro Series irons prior to the X-Tours. Compared to the X-18 Pro Series, the X-Tours are less forgiving and a club shorter. However, the X-Tours are smaller, better looking and allow better shot shaping because they have less offset. Overall, a solid, versatile and somewhat forgiving performer that is also nice looking and whispers "this guy has game."
If you're a serious golfer and you really love all things Callaway, I recommend you at least demo the X-Forged before purchasing the X-Tours. Even at pre-owned prices, their negatives may outweigh their positives.

These irons are great!!!

I have played with forged irons for a long time. These irons are forged but are a two piece welded iron. I must admit I bought them for the shafts. However, These are some of the best clubs I have ever played. If you want to have the control of a forged iron and forgiving soft feel. try these babies out. I have played with mizuno Clevlend and Titleist. This Callaway Xtour with the rifle 5.5 flighted shafts are as playable and accurate as it gets. I am a single didgit handicap and I am impressed. This is a great club.

GREAT IRONS
Created: 04/06/09
I have never been a fan of a muscle back. I always liked these irons but never got around to buy a set. What made me like this iron more than other cavity backs is the thick topline that callaway has always incorporated with their irons but with these, there is hardly a hair of offset. It allows for me to work the ball any way i want with great ease of to hit and a large margin for error. I dont like any offset b/c i feel it makes you over compensate between for your draws and cuts relative to a blade wedge or woods you may have in the bag. Here, i can put the same swing on every club in my bag and i expect the same results. These irons are great on the miss. I can hit a full 6 iron around 198-208 and a missed shot will go about 190-199 unless i fan it, but that never goes anywhere for anyone haha. anyways, i recommend this club for anyone, although some of my friends say it gives them trouble in distance control, but i say quite to the contrary, GREAT CONTROL AND EASY TO HIT.

Worth every penny

I have owned just about every type of forged iron on the market at one time or another. Titleist, Mizuno, Nike, Hogan just to name a few. These irons are easier to hit than the others. They are the most forgiving forged irons I have owned. You still need to hit the "sweet spot" for optimum results, but slight mis-hits don't punish you in the same way traditional forged irons do. There is no compromise with the feel either. The top line and overall size of the club head is slightly bigger, but it didn't take much to get used to. Workability is not sacrificed at all. They are pricey, but in my opinion, they are worth every cent. It would an extremely special iron to make me give these up.

Callaway X-Tour Irons
Created: 10/05/06
The X-Tour irons with regular flex steel shafts were a full club shorter than my other sets and lacked some of the feel I found in other forged irons fromo KZG and Mizuno. Definitely forgiving, they were also workable, but less than other player-type cavity back irons. The D2 swing weight was a plus for me as I could feel the club head throughout the swing. I have since tried a set with regular graphite shafts and they reclaim the lost distance.
It's a good first step for Callaway but I'd wait for the next version - hopefully they'll be more refined (slightly less clunky and play a bit longer).
