Unlike some of the new drivers with triangular and squared shapes, the look of FT-5 driver is very classic. From the top looking down, I could not tell the head was 460cc. It just fits my eyes. All black and sleek finish.
As for playability, it is just excellent. The sound is solid, nothing bothersome. Ball flight is on the lower side compared to other 9.5 degree drivers. Very forgiving and good distance. Most of my miss hits ended up in play. No complaints what so ever... No wonder this club made the best club in Golf Digest's equipment review two years in a row.
Make sure you get fitted with the right shaft for Callaway offers a variety of choices. I got fitted with Fujikura 360.
All in all 10 out of 10!!
Just as almost all golfers I wanted to get more distance with my drives, I used Taylormade drivers previously, I tried the Callaway ft-5 at a demo day at the golf course were I am a member. I was immediately impressed by the extra
distance especially since it was mainly carry distance. I have played with the Ft-5 about a month now and I am definitely hitting less club on my approach shots. I have lowered my handicap by over a stoke in one month since I got the Ft-5 driver. The only thing I do not like about the Callaway Ft-5 driver is the tinnie sound when I hit the ball, but it more than a fair tradeoff for the extra distance off the tee.
The Callaway FT-5 tour driver is really long, and straight. However I was able to shape some shots. I have the 9.5 loft with the Callway RCH Firm shaft. I find this older shaft with its 74 gram weight fits my faster swing speed better. This is the first time I stand at the tee box and feel confidence in where my drive is going. With all the hype on the new drivers out there; the FT-5 still holds its own. Give it a try.
I purchased just before winter and didn't get a chance to use it until late Feb.
Finally after a long winter, I got to hit my Callaway. I definitely am longer, about 15-20 yrds. when I catch it, and longer when I don't. Bad shots are not as bad as with my other club.
I definitely hit it straighter than my last club (Nike Ignite 9.5* stiff shaft.)
The sound is different than most other drivers, being as though it has a composite head, however I love the sound, I used to use the Callaway 360cc Fusion so I was looking forward to hearing this kind of club again, only this time in a 460cc head.
I am very pleased w/ the club and have only exprienced positive results with my FT-5.
Callaway FT-5, neutral bias, 9.5*, with Pershing Graphite Design, S flex shaft.
The FT-5 is long, straight and has a nice feel. It is light enough to get good club head speed. I have the 9* draw, regular as my main driver but also have the 10* for those days when I want a little higher trajectory and less roll.
