Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 6

Review For: Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season 6 (DVD, 6-Disc Set, Repackaged Full Frame)

If you are a fan of Buffy, then the DVD packs of all of the various full seasons are good. Some may be a bit better than others, but mostly good. For those people who haven nott ever seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer or do not get the show, then it may take a while to work into it. But there have rarely been weekly episodic shows on television that are so inventive and original. The show is quirky, extremely funny, witty, long on action and, of utmost importance, character development and interaction.

Season six was the first season on the UPN network after the show had been dropped by the WB. It takes up where season 5 left off, in which Buffy sacrificed herself to save (yet again) the universe from an apocalyptic ending, and her sister Dawn as well. Season 6 spans the entire gamut. There are funny shows (such as Buffy working a dead-end job at the Doublemeat Palace) and deadly serious shows, where Willow deals with her addiction to magics; in a not very successful manner. It is a stark metaphor about how normal humans can get roped into addictions with drugs, alcohol, and gambling and destroy the people that they love in the process.

The highlight of season 6, however, has to be the seventh episode entitled, Once More, With Feeling. Joss Whedon, the creator, producer, and head writer of Buffy, had long wanted to do a musical. He succeeded by putting one entire musical episode right smack dab in the middle of season 6. By itself, this episode makes season 6 entirely worth the purchase. It is funny, dramatic, and, not too bad in the music department. But what I find amazing about this episode is that it works in context with the show and develops the plot, at the same time the characters are singing and dancing their way to defeating the bad guy. This show would not have been possible in any other sequence within the storyline. The actors and actresses all did their own singing and dancing, with great accomplishment. There are some surprises about how good some of them actually sing, such as Anthony Head as Giles, Emma Caulfield as Ayna, and Amber Benson as Tara. Anya has a great little bit about bunnies that causes great guffaws every time I see it.

Season 6 also had some dark moments, and the affair between Buffy and Spike was sometimes rather unpleasant. Buffys romance with Angel in seasons 1 and 2 was very dream-like and stylized. Her fling with Spike in season 6 is just the opposite; very gritty, sexy, full of heat and passion, and sometimes very disturbing. I find this aspect of season 6 rather uncomfortable, and probably unsuitable for anyone under the age of 15. There is not much that is left unsaid about their relationship.

Season 6 is well worth the purchase, if you are Buffy fan. If you are not a fan yet but just curious, I would start with season 1 instead. Not only would you get in on the ground floor, it is probably cheaper as well. That season only has 12 episodes instead of the 22 that the rest of the seasons have, and thus, less disks to buy.

This is why we love Buffy

Review For: Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season 6 (DVD, 6-Disc Set, Repackaged Full Frame)

For years, Buffy the Vampire Slayer didn't sing to me. I had seen and episode here and there, and it was always good, but not good enough to make me rearrange my schedule to be able to watch it, until one day...

After a long gaming session, my friend said he'd drive me home in the morning if I stayed in the spare room, and he sat me down and made me watch the Buffy Musical episode. Sheer genius. Joss Whedon managed to do a full musical in the space of a TV drama, without breaking continuity, while advancing a continuing storyline, all the while having this one episode self contained, so all the background you need is right there. Sure it's better if you know the backstory, but you don't need that to see the brilliance of this episode.

So after being blown away by the Musical, I watched the next episode. Then the one before (he had recorded them on tape from TV, so I couldn't go furthur forward until the next one aired). Then I started at the beginning of the season. When I had exhausted season 6, I started on season 5. After a few episodes of that, my friend came in and said, "Are you still up? It's been eight hours!"

Season Six contains all of the most important aspects of Buffy: love, loss, life, death, stupid relationship mistakes, and, of course, violence. Characters go through life (and death) changing events and grow, except for those that don't, and that's just as important. Although there is a continuing story line, through the first half of the season each episode stands on its own pretty well even never having seen the show before, and the last episodes were so fraught with emotion that it was dificult to have to wait a week to find out what was going to happen - something you will not have to worry about.

Personally, I would recommend just knuckling under and getting the all seven seasons of Buffy all at once; failing that, if you just want to give Buffy a try, go with this season.

The great writing and stories of Buffy Season 6

I thought this was a great season. It seemed to step out of the box a little. It was a good rest from the craziness of season 5 and yet it was still packed with great stories and action. The movie also did a great job with the writing of Sarah Michelle Gellar's character coming back. The singing episode is a favorite because it was so different. I would recommend this to everyone who has liked Buffy. It is a great watch.

Buffy Season 5

Since i am a huge fan of "buffy" and "spike" i really love season 6 of the buffy to vampire series. this may be by far the best season of them all. this marks the beginning of buffy running on UPN and really started off with a bang with buffy being resurrected from the dead. what i also loved about season 6 was the musical and seeing the whole cast sing
esp james marsters and emma cualfield was great. but what i loved most of all was the consummation of buffy and spike's relationship those 2 had so much chemistry and never gets old reliving those moments. it was also in this season that "riley" her college beau from season 4 comes back and sees buffy and spike together in spikes crypt which was classic buffy. i loved every second of season 6 and thankful to who ever came up with the idea of putting tv series on dvd. Buffy Season 6 is a must have of any buffy fan
as i said before i will say it again this is the best season of the 7 even though 4 was very good and 7 was fun
i bought season 6 becuase it was my new years resolution to complete my series and i already had 5 so i began with season 6 and did compete it with season 7 a few weeks later.
season 6 is a fun ride for any spike ande buffy fans
and as bob hope always said

thanks for the memories

by the way
the bonus features are genrous and fantastic

Nearly Perfect

I am a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and so any purchase of Buffy dvds are a good thng. The 6th season is definitely the season for Willow to shine in her own right, not as the good WICCA woman, but as a potential threat to the world. The comic relief of Warren, Andrew and Jonathon offsets the potential for this season to be really depressing, as many episodes deal with topics that can be painful and emotional. And, of course who could not like "One More Time... with Feeling." Anytime you can mix singing and vampire slaying in the same episode you can't go wrong. The Spike/Buffy mix doesn't hurt either, in this season. If you are new to Buffy-dom I suggest starting out with season 1 and working your way through all 7 seven seasons, this is truly the best way to appreciate Buffy the series.
