The Brother MFC-9700 provides services for key office functions in a cost effective manner that is nearly impossible to replicate. I've used Brother solutions for over five years and, having learned how to rebuild the toner cartriges and drums for myself and other small businesses, realize a cost per page of less than one cent. It's speed is adequate for routine office tasks. It doesn't add features that are costly but seldom used. I am able to scan legal and letter size documents through the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), interface office systems with the fax service through software that is included with the product, and use the flat bed scanner for books, manuals, etc. for single page scans. The manual input slot provides print services for jobs that use papers that avoid the use of the paper feed tray; such as checks, envelopes, legal papers, heavier duty paper or light card stock. (The back of the unit opens to facilitate printing on heavier papers.) This equipment is an office focal point whose small footprint and multi-purpose capabilities eliminate the requirement for several different machines each of which have their own office desktop presence.
This is a little older sytle model. It does everything that one might want it to do; futhermore, the printer ink is no high in price. It takes a while to scan documents and you can not really put on sheet in at a time.
This printer (in general, not just the one I bought off ebay) is great. Copying is very quick. You can que multiple fax jobs so that you can have some scans going to one phone number, and some to another, or all to one number but as seperate jobs.
It is not that loud, uses only about 14 watts when in sleep mode. Doesn't take longer than 10 seconds to warm up.
The only gripe would be the scanner. Scanning in color to a computer results in the green color to be oversaturated in the scan, otherwise it is not bad. Can scan up to a resolution of 600x600, which is not super good these days, but nobody really needs better resolution than that, even for archiving family photos 600x600 is good.
This is a old model printer, but it is a great model! Very elegant machine for copying, printing and faxing
