As with what would become my favorite thing on regular TV, 'Lost', I was fashionably late to the gathering that hovers around the newest cult hit, 'Breaking Bad'. Allow me to pause to kick myself a little...
There.
Bryan Cranston's 'Mr. White' is one of the most interesting and compelling characters to cross TV's desolate landscape in quite some time, and from AMC no less! The story of this high school chemistry teacher-turned meth-cooking drug squirrel with a bad dose of lung cancer sounded depressing when I first read it, but what a misconception--the show is crisp, original, fresh and funny and innovative all at once--as I am glued to the chair whenever it comes on now (and may I say God Bless the Inventor of DVR--if you're out there and read this, I owe you a six-pack, my friend). It always heads in directions that you never see coming (much like another basic-cable favorite, 'The Shield'), and the relationships of this dying man--and the young ex-student who he includes into his enterprise--continue to intrigue me right up to the present day.
If you're going to sit on your can anyway, this set is perfect for the rainy day that you're off of work or if you're currently unemployed, it's great...well, anytime at all I guess.
It's hard to draw a real comparison between this show and anything else, because I've really never seen anything like it on a weekly basis, and it remains one of the reigning Kings of the DVR. If you end up watching it, you may find yourself as hopelessly addicted as Mr. White and Jesse's customers.
A chemistry teacher is diagnosed with lung cancer. To help pay for his bills and provide for his family when he's gone, he decides to get into the meth trade. Should be easy, right? It's just simple chemistry, right? Well, Mr white is about to find out that breaking bad has never been so hard.
This is a great show with plenty of laughs and just as many "whoa"s. It's a gritty look into the underbelly of the drug culture in todays america. The show follows the actions of a generally good man as he tries desperately tries to accomplish the impossible, do right while being wrong. It also shows the efforts of the DEA that is trying to stop these backyard cooks from destroying a generation. Each episode has it's own diffrent emotions and twists. Be warned though, this is not a show for children. If you are looking for an entertaining look at the "other side" of good, this is it.
This first season of Breaking Bad introduces the characters and sets the ground rules to the series. The DVD is full of recaps to play along with the episodes to keep you updated.
the Acting in this series is outstanding and I would recommend it to anyone. Especially those who that enjoyed The Sopranos or The Wire on HBO.
Bryan Cranston's and Aaron Paul's performances as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman respectively are excellent as these actors develop their characters with deep understanding of their struggles.
All in all a great show worth owning on DVD.
I like the acting ,and how close the story is to the meth cooking. The way they show how they sale the drug. The things that go wrong and the differnt charactors involed.YOU must see for your self, but make sure you start with the first series the beganing gets you hook. Its like a book you can't put down.
I saw a few episodes while at work and found it very interesting. The main character has real life problems that are indicative of today's society. The challenges of maintaining a quality of life in the face of rising social chaos really hits home. The choices made are ones many people world-wide are forced to make in order to feed and house their families.
Breaking Bad is a very sad commentary on life in this millienum. It carries the disclaimer that it makes no refrence to real individuals but even at a quick glance any viewer with half a brain can identify someone in their inner circle as any if not all of the players in the series. We may dislike what is gojng on in the show but we understand the reasoning and logic that went into the series of bad decisions. The constant downward spiral of the lives of the main characters, clearly show that the decisions are more like a link series of disasters with an invevitable outcome. That outcome, is much like the decision very predictable and also very bad. Life and the crazy situations we are faced with can and often do, alter our characters and sometimes in ways we do not like, making our lives and the lives of those we love and hold so dear, a living nightmare.
