Long ago, I remember a pair of games for the Nintendo NES and Gameboy, they were the "A Boy and his Blob" series, fun little platforming puzzle games about a little boy and his bean eating, transforming blob that romped around, saving the troubled kingdom of Blobonia from evil. They were fun, mentally challenging adventures that a lot of people remember but very few played.
Well the series returned to the Nintendo Wii with this updated adventure and unsurprisingly; it's fun, simple and easy but very fun.
There's just one problem though. NOBODY PICKED IT UP.
That's harsh to say, a few people picked it up, but not enough.
It's such a match made in heaven; a cute adventure about a little boy in a color fantasy world, paling around with an anthromorphic blob, it couldn't be an easier sell on a platform who's primary audience is children. It's perfect for kids too; not too hard, but just critically challenging enough that they can figure out the many challenges laid throughout the game. And it's so wholesome too; cute and devoid of anything overly frightening or objectionable.
I mean, the game has a dedicated hug button, where the character hugs his blob. The cuteness factor is too great.
It's a perfect game for the kids, a dream game even, but it flew so far under the radar.
As stated before, the game is fairly easy. Being a platformer you run and jump, and run and jump. Lots of puzzles come into play where you have to team up with the Blob who has a number of helpful transformations performed by eating various kinds of beans. You might need to keep a list of what the beans do because the game doesn't remind you, and your bean supply is finite, unless you find more throughout the level, but that's a small complaint.
The blob's transformations are standard and lifted from the old games; a ladder, bridge, umbrella, etc. but some transformations get downright awesome like a giant robot, a rocket, and even a sword and shield.
Visually, the game looks like a children's story book; bright colorful, and whimsical, perfect for this kind of game. The game can be said about the music. The tracks aren't entirely memorable but they're pleasing and appropriate. There isn't much of a story though; you only get the basic plot of having to help the Blob save his home planet from a great evil and that's about the extent of it. It's just walking from A to B but that's okay, no kid wants the whole game explained for them.
All and all, this a must own title for the Wii, in fact, it's a must own title for any system. But like Little Kings Story, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, and Ivy the Kiwi, this is an absolutely beautiful game not made by Nintendo that really great for kids and even adults that's so fun to play.
If you're looking for a fun, well put together wii game for your kid, you can't go wrong with A Boy and his Blob, one of the cutest, most heart warming under-rated games on the system.
And even if it's not for a kid it's still fun none-the-less
I bought this game because I remember it from years gone by. I really enjoy this game for a non-violent kids puzzle game. I am an adult and enjoy playing because it is non stressful, easy to navigate, and oh yes, cute! You must associate and navigate the game using your Blob. Feed it jelly beans to change into different usable objects to accomplish your goal. The blob is like a pet. My grandchildren 6 - 10 enjoy playing it also. It is a good clean puzzle game for the family!
GAME IS VERY FUN TO PLAY, BOUGHT THIS FOR MY 8 YEAR OLD, HE ENJOYS PLAYING IT... WOULD VERY MUCH RECOMEND BUYING FOR ALL AGE GROUPS...HUSBAND AND I ALSO ENJOY PLAYING IT...
FUN PUZZLE GAME.UNLIMITED LIVES,SO IF SOMETHING DOESN'T WORK,TRY,TRY AGAIN.ONLY PROBLEM IS THERE IS ONLY ONE SAVE FILE.I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW SOMEONE THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA,BUT IN MY OPINION IT WASN'T.ALSO WHEN THE KID LOOSES HIS LIFE,IT'S A LITTLE CREEPY--A LITTLE TOO REAL.
This is actually a really cool and fun game. Some of the levels are difficult, but it's still fun to play as a family. Love the artwork.
