BLUE mics are the new rock stars of the studio mic world. This is my 6th BLUE (kiwi, mouse, dragonfly, blueberry and baby bottle)and most expensive one to date. As soon as I plugged it in my Tascam dm24 and kicked up the fader sending them thru my Mackie 824's I heard this rich full bodied sound that was very pleasing. With no eq, compression or any type of processing it sounds excellent. Then I plugged it in my avalon VT737sp and I was BLOWN away. A couple quick tweaks of the eq and comp and it was, as we like to say in my crowd, STUPID GOOD!!! Tracks like a dream.
I was fortunate enough to have the capsule from the KIWI included which the previous owner had custom made. WOW WOW WOW WOW!!
I have had the pleasure of owning and using lots of high end mics, BOCK audio, Neuman, (I know I cant spell)and many others but the BLUE mics surpass them all without breaking a sweat. Modern to vintage and everything in between, no problem!
As a 25 year veteran engineer all I can say is screw fixing it in the mix when you can get it right during tracking. The possibilities become endless when you use the right mic for the job.
I will leave it at this, buy yourself a blue mic...any one of them is a step in the right direction BUT the Cactus is a hidden treasure that a lot of folks do not know about. Add one to your arsenal and hear the magic.
