The Blue Book of Gun Values is one of the most widely accepted books on the value of firearms. There are still some gaps in its listings and other information, but at 2176 pages, you can imagine there are not many. In addition, there are sections on how to grade the condition of a firearm.
The largest gaps are in categories such as air rifles and pistols, black powder rifles and pistols and antiques. One of my few complaints about this is how thin the paper is, but at the number of pages, if they were regular thickness, it would have to be in multiple books.
In summary, I highly recommend this book to anyone that is interested in buying, selling or estimating the value of firearms.
If you're serious about collecting firearms or if you are in the business of buying/selling/trading them, you owe it to yourself to get the Blue Book of Gun Values. Besides giving a basic reference to firearm values, this book allows one to date & identify most guns ever made, giving basic specifications of each one. Seperate sections apply to dating Colt, Winchester, & other makes, cross-referencing manufacturers to retailers, identifying proof marks, etc. Just a wealth of firearms information! No gun shop is complete without this book.
This 2005 edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values is an excellent reference for the various firearms manufactures and the models they manufactured. Since it is the 2005 edition, the relative values are useful even if the absolute values are not.
This book's forte is in not just giving values based on the condition of the gun but also training the reader how to recognize these conditions themselves. At nearly 2300(!) pages this book covers more than just a handful of models. However, it does not cover as many special production guns as one might expect. Honestly though, with billions of firearms in the world and millions of different models, issues, and commemorations it would be impossible to cover them all. The price is extraordinarily reasonable given its content. My gunsmith has one. It's a must for anyone that owns/is looking to purchase more than a couple firearms.
I recently acquired several firearms at an estate auction. I noticed that several bidders used this volume--Blue Book of Gun Values-- to help them make intelligent bids during the auction. To assist my decision making in the resale of these guns, and for use at future auctions I decided to get a copy of the book. Ebay was the most effective way to find the volume and then to obtain the best price for it.
The Book is well-organized and esy to use in the 'quick-time' often found at auctions and sales. i recommend it to any potential buyer of firearms.
