First of all, I grew up with late night horror shows such as Shock Theater and Fantastic Features which came on TV every Saturday night. I still have a great passion for the old classics and "The Blob" took a new approach when it brought us movie goers a mass of goo and gave it life. One scene that I really got a kick out of was when the projector guy gets all blobbed over, something we all would like to see when the big screen unexpectedly go's blank. The scene where the mass of people run out of the theater and into the street reveals the marquee and a name of one of horrors most recognizable actors "Bela Lugosi". I also enjoyed ,at that time, new comer Steve McQueen in his leading role as he gets caught up in this SciFi thriller. I will not give away the ending for those of you who have yet to see it, and who hasn't, but only say that if you are a horror-maniac like me you will enjoy this film as it continues to ooze it's way through time.
I bought this movie to see if my memory of the film was better than the actual film. I am glad to say that after all these years, the film still hold great thrills and chills, and not only explores the problem of young adults being taken seriously, but also addresses the problems of veterans returning from overseas combat duty. While obviously done on a small budget, by todays standards, the movie doesn't appear cheaply made. Many years ago I found myself in Downingtown PA, where the movie was filmed, and inquired about the Downingtown Diner, where the showdown occurred between The Blob, and Steven. Turns out that the diner was tken down during some phase of urban development. Too bad!
I was dying to show my kids the wonderful old movie, The Blob. I found this great deal online for only .75. I was so excited! Then, when it came in the mail, we popped it in. The whole time the stupid thing rolled and wouldn't track. I was so angry that the person sold us this bad copy.
I bought this movie because I love old science fiction movies. I recommend it to all science fiction addicts--it's a winner!
The DVD had a very loud buzzing noise so the movie was not watchable, but the sender was extremely generous and apologetic and refunded my money back immediately. Very good person to do business with.
