Movie synopsis
In Guillermo del Toro's BLADE II, Wesley Snipes reprises his role as the part-human, part-vampire superhero based on the comic book character. Following a trail of blood that leads to Prague, Blade (aka the Daywalker) slays a legion of bloodsuckers in the search for his abducted mentor, Whistler (Kris Kristofferson). Soon Blade reluctantly joins forces with a band of skilled vampiric warriors called the Bloodpack to hunt down an even deadlier enemy--the monstrous Reapers, who prey on vampires and humans alike, infecting them with an incurable virus. In addition to battling these relentless new foes, Blade must deal with situations brought about by the Bloodpack's tenuous alliance --in particular, his attraction to the lovely Nyssa (Leonor Varela) and his rivalry with the brutish Reinhardt (Ron Perlman).A hyperkinetic motion picture, BLADE II literally explodes onto the screen with hi-tech weaponry and stunning special effects. The fight sequences, choreographed by Hong Kong superstar Donnie Yen (who plays Bloodpack member Snowman), are remarkably hard-hitting and elaborate. The film also improves on the entertaining original by adding a darker, more visceral tone that's fleshed out by del Toro's stylish and brilliantly grotesque visuals. Both frightening and thrilling, BLADE II is sure to astound both horror and action fans alike.

Editorial reviews

"....Dense on imagery, mood and plot. Happily, it exults in its lurid and gruesome absurdity....A 'B' picture in love with the zest of its comic-book origins, it embodies that medium's pulse-pounding spiritedness and silliness..."
New York Times - Elvis Mitchell (03/22/2002)

"...Snipes gives a looser, cooler performance this time around..."
USA Today - Mike Clark (03/22/2002)

"...There are twists and turns aplenty, zippy one-liners and enough firepower to flatten a major metropolis. BLADE II trumps its predecessor..."
Box Office - Wade Major (05/01/2002)

"...BLADE II has superior production values and visual and special effects....Snipes again combines a formidable physical presence with a depth of feeling and capacity for reflection unusual for an incarnation of a comic book hero..."
Los Angeles Times - Kevin Thomas (03/22/2002)

"...Technically impressive....BLADE II is infused with maximum energy by filmmaker Guillermo del Toro..."
Hollywood Reporter - David Hunter (03/20/2002)

"...Darker, faster....There are plenty of gruesome or startling moments..."
Sight and Sound - Kim Newman (06/01/2002)

"...What style, what energy and what a bloody great sequel..."
Total Film - Simon Crook (06/01/2002)

"...Snipes once again provides the proper amount of ultracool gravitas as he slices, dices, shoots and scores in the title role..."
Variety - Joe Leydon (03/25/2002)

"...A really rather brilliant vomitorium of viscera....The movie is an improvement on BLADE, which was pretty good..."
Chicago Sun-Times - Roger Ebert (03/22/2002)

GOOD MOVIE!!!

A sequel that works? Perish the thought. Ah, but not yet, not before you see Blade 2, a movie that really is twice the fun of the original and shows us once and for all that there’s a new horror sheriff in town and his name is Guillermo Del Toro.

So what makes Blade 2 so good, it’s still Snipes busting moves on vamps and striking more poses than a wrestling superstar. Well, it’s the energy in the film. This doesn’t FEEL like a sequel, it feels like a continuation. Or a re-birth. Everything is faster, darker, nastier, and really, deeper. And this one actually tries (and accomplishes to a great degree) to be scary. And to me, all of this is thanks to director Del Toro, a man that’s just now showing how good a director he can be.

This time around Blade is on the hunt for Whistler, his father-figure and mentor that, it turns out, didn’t die in the first film but was captured by the vampires and ‘turned’. In finding Whistler though Blade forges a shaky alliance with the very enemies he has hunted for so long – the vampires – both deciding its in their mutual interests if a new cross-breed of vampire is eliminated before it can breed Blade, the vamps, and the human race off the earth. The new creatures, the ghastly Reapers, add more than a touch of horror into what was once an action movie with a horror movie aftertaste, and it’s thanks to the Reapers that this is so good. The Reapers add a new level to everything and are far more formidable foes for Blade than the vamps had become.

The acting is decent, though Snipe’s Blade will win no awards for startling character growth, and the action and horror are well done, but really, the movie is Del Toro’s through and through. Instead of being content to shoot a rote sequel with the same stuff as the first movie, but more, he brings an energy and life to the film that is felt from beginning to end, making it a perfect popcorn horror film. Which is what he wanted to make.

As for the disc, the best thing on it by far is the wonderful documentary on the making of the film, which is so detailed, and branches off onto so many paths that it becomes like a mini-filmmaking tutorial by Del Toro. Smart, honest, and very funny, Del Toro is a blast to listen to because this is a horror movie fan making a movie for horror movie fans. The doc takes you through the entire process of making the movie and is one of the best I have seen on a disc. There are also a few deleted and alternate scenes and two audio commentaries (the best being with the director and writer), as well as as some other ephemera. But man alive there is a lot to this disc. Most you can take or leave, but that they put this much material on it for us to look through if we wanted to, well, that’s just further testament to how dedicated New Line is to pleasing its fans.

A very good, very fun movie, I cannot recommend it enough if you liked the first. And hell, if you didn’t, I would still give this one a go, because it’s just so well made and fun.

I have to admit the only reason i originally bought this film was because it had Norman reedus in it. But after the first time i watched it, i had to watch it again and again and again i absolutly loved it. The special effects and sound tracks we're amazing and extremely well done. The actors perfomances we're increadible and i have absolutly nothing to bad to say about it.

Not a bad sequel

Not a bad sequel but not as good as the first (are they ever...Lord of the Rings is the exception) however turn up the volume for this well-done, new take on vampires. Snipes reminds me of Bruce Lee in the very exciting martial art combats. The special effects are first-rate, with some interesting character, particularly Whistler, played by Kris Kristofferson. Not for kids but perfect for girlfriends!!! :0)

A must have movie. The best out of the trilogy

The story, action, and acting is great in this film. It is no doubt the best Blade film. The story was amazing and the ending kinda makes you feel sorry for Blade. In the end I totally recommend this movie to anyone who likes action movies. Make sure to get the 2 Disc set. The extras and bonus features are really really good. I rate this movie a MUST BUY!

good movie!

bought the NewPhone 74205 three weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive phone. It has a 1M-pixel camera, video camera, and speakerphone. The NewPhone's size is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan of roughly 4 hours. My only complaint is that the menu system on the phone makes you click four times before you can find someone in the address book, set an alarm, or perform a additional functions. Other phones I've owned have simpler menus and get you to important features easily. Overall, I'd recommend the phone if you're on a budget.
