The RIM BlackBerry 8820 is the first BlackBerry to offer integrated Wi-Fi. The smart phone continues to offer Bluetooth, GPS, and push e-mail capabilities as well as push-to-talk and multimedia functions. We were also impressed by the long talk-time battery life.
There's no 3G support and no option for a camera version. The QWERTY keyboard can be slippery, and the device uses a proprietary instant messaging client.
The addition of Wi-Fi makes the RIM BlackBerry 8820 an even more powerful communication device for business users, taking it beyond just e-mail and phone calls.

THE BEST BLACKBERRY WIFI CELL PHONE
The good: The RIM BlackBerry 8820 is the first BlackBerry to offer integrated Wi-Fi. The smart phone continues to offer Bluetooth, GPS, and push e-mail capabilities as well as push-to-talk and multimedia functions. We were also impressed by the long talk-time battery life.
The bad: There's no 3G support and no option for a camera version. The QWERTY keyboard can be slippery, and the device uses a proprietary instant messaging client.
The bottom line: The addition of Wi-Fi makes the RIM BlackBerry 8820 an even more powerful communication device for business users, taking it beyond just e-mail and phone calls.
Purchased a new-old-stock version of the Blackberry 8800 series: the 8820. The phone arrived unlocked; I am using it on the AT&T network.
-PRO's: The tactile keyboard is very comfortable to type on. The keys "click" down, giving good feedback while thumb-typing, though they are not difficult to depress. The integrated WiFi is very usable, allowing for faster e-mail downloads or browsing than relying on AT&T's EDGE network. This was also a selling point for me as it allows one to check e-mail when traveling internationally without incurring additional connection charges. The form factor fits comfortably in your hands without feeling bulky, and the phone is lighter than one would expect. The corporate integration capabilities are, of course, legendary. My unit was ready to connect to my corporate BlackBerry server right out of the box, and the integrated setup wizard on the phone makes setting up e-mail and voicemail options quick and simple.
CONS: The lack of 3G support means downloading large e-mail attachments and/or web browsing is slower than the newer 3G BlackBerries. The trackball on the 8820 also takes some acclimation, though it works accurately.
Overall, I would certainly purchase this model BlackBerry again. The user interface is efficient and familiar, the WiFi features work as advertised, and the hardware is both high-quality and comfortable to use.
This is a very useful smart phone, i have everything on this. It has wifi, so in the morning when i wake up i usually go on the computer to check my email, facebook, etc. but now i can do that in the palm of my hands. Wifi is very useful, but sometimes it has problems connecting with my router. Had issues upgrading, and downgrading but that was taken care of. Operating software is great. It can definitely replace an Ipod Touch as long as you don't play games on it. Its great for work. Only bad thing is powering it up takes a long time. Other than that it is an A+++ product.
I bought this phone as a spare (in case something happens to my main phone), the phone is an older BlackBerry, but it works great! I love the web browser on it, and the general use of the BlackBerry 8820. My phone service works fine on it and so does the WiFi. Beautiful, elegant device! One thing to note: I could not figure out at first why certain programs on the phone would not work, so I called my carrier and found out that with a BlackBerry you have to have the BlackBerry service (data), because the device uses BlackBerry servers that use this route. Which is no problem for me, but I just want to give all of you a head up. Once you add that, it is a beautiful fast device!
I am thrilled with this phone. It took a while to learn because I am a first time blackberry user. I like the size and weight of the phone. The ring tones are loud and the keyboard is the perfect size for my fingers. I would purchase this phone again or perhaps one with a camera.
