I got Biology by Jane B. Reece, Lisa A. Urry, Michael L. Cain, Neil A. Campbell, Peter V. Minorsky, Robert B. Jackson, Steven A. Wasserman (2007, Other, Mixed media product) 3 days after I had ordered and I am enjoining reading it and it applications.
Thank you.
This book is great for an introductory college or AP Biology course. It covers the basics of biological chemistry, cellular biology, systems, and an introduction to the classification system and the different groups and species that comprise it. There are a lot of illustrations and additional facts that can make it hard to parse out especially important information, but this also makes it fairly readable and engaging. The online component provides additional support and learning tools, such as animations and an e-book.
I have been through many biology books and i can truly say, this is one of the best. Even though I have not encountered the 7th edition, the 6th edition contains many descriptive diagrams, somewhat comprehendable text, and chapter reviews. This is the perfect introductory book to the world of biology.
best topics covered: cellular resp, photosyn, & physiology
"alright" topics covered: evolution, behavioral biology
In my view, the book does an outstanding job under harvesting energy, the beauty of physiology, and the basic fundamentals of life. However, I dont believe the evolutionary and behavioral biology topics are covered clearly and to the full extent of the authors. All-in-all, amazing book!
Biology (Campbell Reece), along with Biological Science (Freeman) and Biology (Raven, et al.) form the cornerstone of biological studies for the high school and first year university level. Campbell Reece Biology is one of the best textbooks for any high school or introductory university biology course. Choose one of these three over other biology books, such as Inquiry into Life (Mader).
This guide was used to study for a college level screening exam that allows the student to "test out" of taking an on line biology course that is part of an on line degree program. It is comprehensive, has illustrations and charts, and the chapter tests really do screen for recall/understanding. Out of the 2 guides that were bought, this one made studying easier and faster. It builds on what was learned in high school biology and probably could not be used without some coursework previously or at least plenty of hard work and science TV channel. The test is in 3 weeks.
