Movie synopsis
Before he was Cliff Huxtable, legendary comedian Bill Cosby crafted another refreshingly intelligent and warmhearted television series with THE BILL COSBY SHOW, the comic's second television outing (after I SPY) and first sitcom. The series centered on gym teacher Chet Kincaid (Cosby) as he offered sometimes comical but always positive guidance to the students at an inner-city high school in Los Angeles. Though it lasted only two seasons, the late-'60s series offered realistic, character-driven plotlines that captured its era's black-consciousness zeitgeist and set the standard for Cosby's later sitcom offerings. This collection presents all 26 episodes of the beloved series' debut season, which featured guest appearances by Lou Gossett, Jr., Henry Fonda, Cicely Tyson, Elsa Lanchester, and Wally Cox.

Underrated series, well worth the purchase

This TV series from 1969-1971 was terrific. It was Cosby's first sitcom and it came after the drama I-Spy. It features vintage slice of life scripts with excellent dry humor and ironic real life situations. It's like stepping back in time to 1970---the wardrobe, cars, decorating, you name it. It's great for all ages. To me, the show was underrated when it first aired and given the huge success of Cosby's 80's show, this one is often forgotten. What a shame, because it really is great.

The original Bill Cosby

I had watched this show as a kid and fell in love with Billy Cosby. I also watched him on Electric Company and Fat Albert, but for some reason this show was lost in time. No one I talked to really remembered it. So I was so suprised to see it available on DVD, just as I remembered it. That funny opening theme with him using words I have never heard of ("resenrasin, ha ha ha ha"). He talks about the opening theme in the DVD extras, how he got started in the show etc. Bill Cosby is a true American treasure and this show was history in the making.
