The author presents clearly the case for eldership in the early Christian church and the need for the contemporary church to return to such leadership. My education in seminary did not present this biblical picture. Using denominational practice as the basis for current church polity is self-serving and tends to perpetuate the status quo without examining the real need for returning to biblical directives. If your denomination's doctrine, polity and practices are "right", why mess things up by checking the Scriptures? Let us not "proof text" what we want my misinterpreting what the Bible actually teaches.
This excellent work sets for the biblical pattern for church leadership. Shared, plural, male, eldership. The one-man pastorate is so common in christendom that its a breath of fresh air to read a book like this that takes what the bible says about leadership in the church, and builds upon it...instead of taking what christendom practices and justifies it. This is a top 10 book for leaders in God's church. Very thorough, reverent, biblical, conservative. Thank you Mr. Strauch.
Good resource on this topic; stuck to Scripture and every
Christian needs to read it in my opinion.
Very insightful and written so as to be able to swallow in bite size portions to be able to understand better and follow. Very good scripture references to back up the conclusions and thoughts that are trying to be portrayed.
I needed a historical perspective, it gave me an example of what I was searching for, this is a great book for those searching for truth
