Movie synopsis

Drew Barrymore lends her perky pipes to a spoiled Chihuahua named Chloe in this live-action Disney comedy. Somehow Chloe finds herself in Mexico, far from her life in Beverly Hills, and she has to find her way home. Andy Garcia, George Lopez, and Salma Hayek are among the vocal talent in SOUTH OF THE BORDER, while Piper Perabo, Manolo Cardona, and Jamie Lee Curtis star., In Disney's unabashedly silly talking-dog movie BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA, Chloe (voiced by Drew Barrymore), the ridiculously spoiled title pet, is swept away from her comfortable 90210 existence, when the impulsive niece (Piper Perabo) of her wealthy owner (Jamie Lee Curtis) combines dog-sitting with a vacation in Mexico. When Chloe gets lost south of the border, her scrappy Chihuahua admirer, Papi (voiced by George Lopez), embarks on a mission to bring her back home. While Chloe's pint-size dog in shining armor searches for his posh crush, she must contend with the rough-and-tumble side of life, learning a few important lessons along the way.Directed by Raja Gosnell, who is no stranger to dog-themed live-action/CGI flicks (see SCOOBY-DOO), CHIHUAHUA is an amusing diversion that is custom-made for canine lovers. Barrymore and Lopez are pitch-perfect in their vocal performances, and they are ably assisted by a bevy of Latino talent, including Andy Garcia, Edward James Olmos, and Cheech Marin. Although the film doesn't give its human actors a lot to do, it doesn't matter much, since the dogs are the reason for the entire show. In fact, the more the movie concentrates on its furry protagonists the more giddily entertaining it gets, as exemplified by a fun, fantastical doggie musical sequence that serves as CHIHUAHUA's undeniable highlight.

Dogs really do talk after ALL!

Review For: Beverly Hills Chihuahua (DVD, 2009)
This 91 minute film tells about a pampered Beverly Hills chihuahua named Chloe (voiced by Drew Barrymore) who, while on vacation in Mexico with her owner Viv's (Jamie Lee Curtis) niece, Rachel (Piper Perabo), gets lost and must rely on her friends to help her get back home before she is caught by a dognapper who wants to ransom her.

In the meantime, Papi (voiced by George Lopez), a male chihuahua who is in love with her is in pursuit of her. Papi's master (Manolo Cardona), a handsome young gardener for Viv, slowly develops a romantic interest in Rachel.

Chloe befriends a lonely German Shepherd (voiced by Andy Garcia) who travels with her to protect her from the evil Doberman (voiced by Edward James Olmos) who wants to return her and her diamond collar to the dognapper.

As a dog lover, I loved this movie. Ever since I fell in love with the Taco Bell dog, I wanted a movie filled with chihuahuas. The flow of this movie was free and easy and had many valiant and noble gestures of kindness embedded throughout the movie. The children loved this movie and kept them on the edge of their sets. The desert canyon scene was one of my favorites and is very unforgettable.

Don't miss this family movie for any reason. The dog chatter was more believable and sincere than the human script! hah. See you in the funny papers!

Here are some of the main characters:

Drew Barrymore ... Chloe (voice)
Piper Perabo ... Rachel Ashe Lynn
Andy Garcia ... Delgado (voice)
George Lopez ... Papi (voice)
Cheech Marin ... Manuel (voice)
Paul Rodriguez ... Chico (voice)
Plácido Domingo ... Monte (voice)
Edward James Olmos Diablo (voice)
Loretta Devine ... Delta (voice)
Jamie Lee Curtis Aunt Viv
Luis Guzmán ... Chucho (voice)
Eddie 'Piolin' Sotelo Rafa (voice)
Carlos Juvera ... Tomás (voice)

Lombardo Boyar ... Praying Dog

Beverly Hills Chihuahua

Review For: Beverly Hills Chihuahua (DVD, 2009)
This is an adorable family-suitable movie that immediately draws the viewer in - with the rich animal characters, as well as the humans who care for them. As an owner of three chihuahuas, I was immediately captured and drawn into the adventure of a very spoiled chihuahua and her irresponsible dog-sitter. The actual "stealer" of the show was the landscaper's dog, Papi, voiced by George Lopez. Dru Barrymore is the voice of "Cloe", the super-spoiled, but sweet, star of the show. I highly recommend this movie to all animal lovers. It is fun and poignant. There are "jail" scenes that are highly reminiscent of "The Lady and the Tramp". The inmates are hilarious!

Fun family humor, appropriate for all...

Review For: Beverly Hills Chihuahua (DVD, 2009)
Most children's movies have some adult humor to keep parents entertained too. This is no different, but still appropriate for all ages. You just can't beat talking animals, and the line up of celebrity voices totally makes the characters fun and personable.

The human love story is weak, as were the characters. The gardener is a hot Latino and should have been given a little deeper or more layered personality. There are so many female leads that would have been a better choice and several times wondered why Piper Perabo took the lead. Jamie-Lee Curtis is perfect in her role as the doting "mommy" and her character had the most vibrant personality and was used to the advantage of the story. More of her would have been even better and enhanced the human aspect. However, understanding that the humans are secondary to the "plot" you just have to roll with it.

Overall, one of the better non-Disney children's films to arrive on the scene and a film to be watched over and over with the kids.

Review For: Beverly Hills Chihuahua (DVD, 2009)
We loved the movie the first time we saw it in the Theater. We wanted to buy the DVD for our home collection of favorite pet movies. This one comes in Full Screen or Wide Screen to fit any TV you have. Story is funny and it has a good ending with a message about pet adoption. This is one of Disney's best movies so far! Rated G for all age groups. Colorful adventure and hilarious comedy.

Review For: Beverly Hills Chihuahua (DVD, 2009)
Is a movie with an adorable story of two dogs that go through an adventure and fall in love, Modern version on Lady and the tramp but with a human and fashionable touch I may add. It is comical! It is sweet and funny and charming, very entertaining, there is some action and in the end you will be pleased with this dog comedy, George Lopez and Drew Barrymore did a GREAT JOB!....I dont know who wouldn't like this.
