Ben Hogan Apex Edge Pro Irons
Created: 05/23/08
I will start off with the fact that I have a bad back. I am lucky in a way as I have trouble lifting my golf clubs but I have learned to swing them without further issues to my back. I went out and bought a set of Ben Hogan FTX irons. Because of my back I went with the regular flex (#3) graphite shafts. I loved those clubs but when I was having issues with my back and could not swing as well those clubs were not very forgiving. I decided to look into some other clubs that were more forgiving. Because I have enjoyed the way that Ben Hogan(Now Callaway) makes clubs I started with them. After some research and also talking with a local golf pro. He said to look into Ben Hogan Apex Plus and Apex Edge Pro forged golf clubs. From him and the research they are much more forgiving but allow you to work the ball some.
I ended up with Ben Hogan Apex Edge Pro clubs with regular flex (#3) steel shafts. I found them right here on Ebay. The steel shafts would lower the trajectory some as I used to hit the FTX's rather high. By changing to the steel shafts I even started hitting the ball further than the graphite shafts.
After playing the Ben Hogan Apex Edge Pro's I just love them. They allow me to play golf when I am feeling good and also when my back is bothering me some. When my back is really acting up well no club would let me play golf. When I feel pretty good I can hit them good and even work the ball some. When not feeling so well I still hit them straight but just not as far. I just take an extra club or more and let the club do all the work. They are forgiving when compared to the FTX's Ben Hogan makes other clubs more forgiving like the CFT but dont allow you to work the ball as much. That was important to me which I why I went with the Apex Edge Pro's. Those clubs have a great sound when I hit them well. Right in the sweet spot. I do wish the steel shaft's were a little bit lighter. The graphite feel with steel shafts and steel trajectory.
I don't have a very high swing speed as I have a very compact swing. I took a lesson from a teaching pro that dealt with others golfers having a bad back. That swing allows me to be able to still play golf. Now with those new clubs I am really enjoying golf even more. My handicap has gotten lower. Its just more fun playing golf when you know your playing with quality equipment. I like Ben Hogan's attitude about building golf clubs. They are classic forged golf clubs. He made clubs for all types of players. From golf pro's to us hackers. To me your a hacker if your not being paid to play golf.
I know that I will alway have a set of Ben Hogan golf club in my hand as those clubs seem to work well with the way that I play golf.

Ben Hogan Iron set - Apex Edge Pro

i LIKE THE bEN hOGAN IRONS Apex Edge Pro maninly because they are forged and soft feel when you play with them ..Theyr so soft you have to have the loft and lie checked every year at least, depending on how many rounds you play in a year. Its a pity that the Callaway Golf company isnt doing much with the Ben Hogan brand. I would love to see newer models of the Ben Hogan irons.

Serious clubs for serious golf
Created: 04/16/06
I've been using my Apex Edge Pro's for about 18 months now. They had been on the market for approx 18 - 24 months prior to my purchase and although I was looking to buy something recently released, my decision to go with the Hogan's has contributed to a significant improvement in my golf. I'm of average build and 50 yrs of age and have played golf regularly for 25 years. When I started playing with the Pro's my handicap was 11. It's now 7! Nothing has changed apart from the added confidence and consistency I've found since playing with these clubs. You can read all the technical mumbo jumbo you like, but unless you feel confortable looking at, and swinging a golf club, no amount of tech speak will convince you that the club in your hand is going to deliver the 'goods'. I have Hogan regular steel shafts and wanted to step up to something 'blade-like'. These clubs are as close as I want to get to blades. They have a similar feel, very strong clubs, yet still provide a reasonable degree of forgiveness if you don't catch the ball in the centre. Also, they have a traditional look about them and am constantly amazed how user-friendly they are.

Best Club for me
Created: 09/24/07
I bought a set of these clubs last year. I had been looking for the right set for some time. Too many current "players" clubs only came with stiff shafts. The game improvement clubs did not give me feedback or consistency to develop a solid game. It seemed they had too much offset, were too light or the shaft was too soft. These were perfect. Beautiful set of clubs. I have the 3-SW. Just enough cavity. Apex shafts (regular flex) just heavy and stiff enough. Easy to align. Not troubled with lots of offset. I have been scoring in the 75-85 range ever since I picked them up. I would highly recommen them to anyone. And if you can get a set "used", they are a tremendous club for the money. I still like the look of the old blades, but no longer have that game. This was the best compromise for me.

Hit it Flush!
Created: 08/30/07
I bought the Edge Pros a few years ago on E-bay. I just loved the way the head design looks, and was hoping they would perform. Well, they are excellent! The Hogan Apex shafts, when I hit it flush, feel exquisite. I can feel the ball compress and explode of the face. At alignment the tops look like blades but are forgiving, and straight, on mishits. I don't know much about the technical data for these or other irons, but I do know that, for me, these babies are gorgeous to look at (many compliments) and will be the last irons I'll ever play. Thanks, Hogan, and please bring these back so other people can enjoy them.
