After nearly 45 years, the 1964 motion picture classic "A Hard Day's Night", the screen debut for The Beatles, remains a quinessential film achievement. Produced to capitalize upon the phenomenon known as Beatlemania, the movie tells about a fictionlized variation of 2 days in the lives of John, Paul, George and Ringo. The lads from Liverpool are well represented in this groundbreaking black-and-white masterpiece that still continues to influence into the 21st century. The basic premise deals with the boys taking a train to London, where they are scheduled to appear on a major television special. John, George and Ringo are given their own unique set pieces within the framework of the film, while there are many brilliant moments featuring the group as a whole. There are 7 songs included in the soundtrack; "A Hard Day's Night", "I Should Have Known Better", "If I Fell", "And I Love Her", "Can't Buy Me Love", "I'm Happy Just To Dance With You" and "Tell Me Why". An 8th song written for the film, "I'll Cry Instead", is featured as the background music selection for a series of still photos from the movie, created as a unique opening prologue. Other songs include "I Wanna Be Your Man", "Don't Bother Me", "All My Loving" and "She Loves You". The film would go on to earn 2 Oscar nominations, for the original screenplay by Alun Owen and the instrumental score adaptation by George Martin. "A Hard Day's Night" just might be the greatest rock 'n' roll movie ever made!
Entertaining and fun come to mind as you watch this wonderful production with the "Fab Four." Who would have guessed that an astounding rock group could also be great actors. Simple story to follow surrounded by the groups hits used in the soundtrack. No band before or since has accomplished what these boys from Liverpool did in such a short time. Light hearted comedy that shows the personal side of the BEATLES. This is a no "Brainer" to a collector of Beatlemania or to anyone who just wants to watch a great film. This is entertainment at its finest. I've collected period films by The Dave Clark Five and Herman's Hermits and there is no comparison, A Hard Days Night when first seen in 1964 was beyond everyone's expectations, especially the critics. My review? Two thumbs up for, A Hard Day's Night.
I can clearly remember my sister bringing home the "Meet the Beatles" album back when it had just been released in the early sixties...You wouldn't think a record would change someone's life as it did....but it did..and as I discovered later it's not an uncommon story. I became a professional musician and owe it all to this group from Liverpool but I'd bet they launched almost all the babyboomer generation's mucical careers......we all wanted to be the next Beatles! As time went on I became interested in other music...mostly jazz but it seems now I've re-discovered my roots. Yes, I think I'm going through Beatlemania again at 56 years old! I orderd this DVD from e-bay, which is where I seem to get most everything these days and watching it took me back to the day I saw it in the theater among screaming girls.... as if they were really up on stage! While I don't see them as the gods I thought they were at 14 I do appreiciate them even more in some ways. They were the first to introduce the self contained group....the combo! They played their own instruments...sang their own vocals (lead and background) and wrote their own tunes. They set the standard for the generations to come! This is a great dvd to have in any Beatle fans collection! It' a great documentation of the time if you were not there and a great way to go back if you were!
"A Hard Days Night" is a great movie, fast paced and a real time capsule of the Fab Four! I have the two-disc set and the extra features are very interesting and informative on the making of the movie and of the Beatles.
The film includes lots of great music, and is as fresh and dynamic as the day it was released and it's great to see the Lads from Liverpool so fresh faced and having a great time making this, their first film.
So if you want to enjoy great music, and a fun movie that really takes you back in time to the excitement of the start of the British Invasion, watch "A Hard Days Night" and relive the fun and music of the greatest rock and roll band ever.
five star movie that actually created a genre but a 3 star blu ray. they just didn't clean the picture up for this release. It's what they should have done and it can be done. This means that it's the same print used for the dvd set but you get better clarity. If you get it for a fair price then I would say it's worth it. But in no way is it worthmore than 15.00 or so. It's not remastered. That being said 'a hard days night' is a classic movie that broke new ground in cinema. The beatles are at their best before drugs set in and made their personalities get lost in paranoia. their music was always great though and they all got off hard drugs by the seventies which is better than most groups back then too. So I was glad to get this but like other canadian only releases not alot of effort was made at remastering and cleaning which is a shame. You do get to see the great beatles play alot of cool songs and such here though so it's worth owning till they remaster it and it's better than the dvd version too, but not at some awful 40.00 price though. shop for a reasonable price on this one.
