t's weird to think that when I went to see "Home Alone" in the theaters, "Backdraft" was advertised right before the movie came on. The whole thing is a little grimmer than we usually expect from Ron Howard. It focuses on mutually hostile brothers Stephen (Kurt Russell) and Brian McCaffrey (William Baldwin), both firefighters in Chicago having to put aside their differences to fight an arson outbreak.
True, it doesn't really sound like much of a plot, but Howard knows how to keep everything going. Stephen is the sort of guy with a bad attitude whom you can't help but respect. Brian mainly shows that there was once a time when Alec Baldwin's brothers could act. As for the climax, that is really something that is likely to shock you royally. But don't get me wrong. This is a good movie. Maybe not any kind of masterpiece, but worth seeing nevertheless. Above all, it's not a disaster movie (the less said about "The Towering Inferno" the better). Also starring Robert DeNiro, Donald Sutherland, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Scott Glenn, Rebecca DeMornay and J.T. Walsh.
This is and action thriller about the adventurous lives of professional firefighters. Kurt Russell and William Baldwin star as two feuding firefighter brothers who must set aside their personal difference in order to survive the burning churning infernos set by a maniacal arsonist.
This is a very, very good movie to watch. This anniversary edition is great because it has extras to show how the movie was made, and the movie is remastered to have better quality when watching it on the TV.
This is the Anniversary Edition of a terrific film - Backdraft. It was filmed in Chicago!! Two brothers serve as firemen and as siblings, bicker quite a bit. Kurt Russel plays the older brother of William Baldwin who is the younger brother in this terrific movie. This movie portrays the devastation of fires - great detail. The firemen are experiencing a large volume of Arson and they need to figure out what is happening. The brothers become closer during this episode. There is one funny scene where the younger brother (William Baldwin) rescues a female manequin. Boy do they razz him! This Anniversary Edition includes two discs with many bonus features. A great item to add to your collection!
This movie tells a moving story of feuding brothers in Chicago. I had seen this movie when it first was released and had just recently saw it again on TV. I was drawn to the conflict and also to the special effects. The sound quality was not the best at times (at times too loud and too soft at other times), but overall, it was a great movie. It was a moving scene at the end in the cemetery that really made the movie one to remember.
