I bought C-5500 for shots of sporting events and because of the manual focus. It doesn't have the most user friendly manual, nor is the menu system very intuitive. However, after much studying, I learned how to use the features of the camera. The manual focus is useless, unless you're shooting a stationary object. One would expect to find image stabilization on a "sport zoom". There is, but only in the movie mode, not for stills. The lcd screen is tough to see in bright sunlight. I liked the burst mode feature and got several good shots, but be prepared to delete most. Don't get me wrong, it was a nice camera, just not for any action shots. I say WAS, because even though it was babied, it stopped working about a month after the warranty expired. I feel there may be better cameras in the market-place for those looking to take action shots.
This is hands down the best camera we've owned.
I am not sure what some other reviewer was thinking or doing when they siad sports was not good. When you select "SPORTS" from the scene menu - it is fabulous for pictures in motion; Kids, Pets, Football, etc. And MOST ALL cameras now have the SCENE menu - and they are all intuitive.
This is the BEST camera for the money you can get short of a digital SLR. We tried several other cameras (Cybershot, Olympus 1100, etc) NONE of the compact cameras takes a picture even close to the quality of the C-5500.
We now have a UZ600 (The latest version of the C-5500) We stayed in the same family of camera - -It is fabulous!!
this is the rockinist little camera ive ever had, mabey because it was my first digital camera, but all the features are just like a regular dslr.i love the super macro mode the best, im sold on olympus because of this camera.
I love this camera and own many--plus have bought one for my sister (a professional photographer who loves it!), grandchildren, nieces and nephews. My family and I swear by this camera. Not the smallest, but fast, accurate and does everthing from macro work to movies. VERY versatile and just a stupendous camera.
Now that I've written this review, I'll probably never be able to "steal" one off eBay again. LOL
