I quite enjoyed this game though I'd read a lot online about how some people didn't like it. I'm a big Avatar fan, so I decided to try it out anyway and rented it.

Good if you're a fan, decent if you're not

Created: 10/18/07
I quite enjoyed this game though I'd read a lot online about how some people didn't like it. I'm a big Avatar fan, so I decided to try it out anyway and rented it.

The game is RPG-style and covers an original story set between Book 1: Water and Book 2: Earth, and I felt it captured the feel of the show admirably. There's a lot of exploring and talking to people, combat and humor, plot twists and side quests. You visit well known areas such as the Northern Water Tribe and the City of Omashu, as well as new locations, all of which felt very in-universe. Actually, the whole thing was very immersive, and felt I learned even more about the Avatar's world than from watching the show alone.

The combat is fun. Each character has a unique style of attack, and you can switch between them at will, which is an under-used feature that increases the role-play experience. Some situations are just better for a certain character, as Sokka is not as good against firebenders becuase he can't block their fire blasts, but he is really good at taking out the bosses with his Fury, Frenzy, and Annihilate attacks!

The criticized attempt at cel-shaded graphics didn't bother me except during the close-ups in the cutscenes, but that was mostly because I wanted the characters to be higher-poly and look a tad less childlike; you sure do notice the polygon edges on Aang's bald head. The animations are good, especially the voice-synching, and the voices are done by the excellent actors from the show.

Between college and work, this game took me a week to beat and I barely got it back to the rental place in time. I knew I had to buy it, and picked it up here on eBay for less than the rental!

Avatar fans will want to pick this up here on eBay for a good price. Even if you're not into the show, it is an enjoyable lighter-hearted RPG that can give you a good amount of entertainment.

Very Good, not great.

Game play good.
Levels seem to get more intricate as the game progresses.
Easy to adapt to controls.
Some feats require more than a childs level of coordination.
True to the Avatar show.

Graphics seeem to "tear" often (usually near walls). Looks rushed in development.
During large battles the game slows down.

This is an adventure game that requires alot of reading for plot development.
If your buying for a child keep this in mind.

My 7 y/o son enjoys playing the game and that is all that counts.

It is a great game. I have a 7 year old boy and it is just about right for him. There is a little bit of reading/story/interaction via talking with characters that adds a bit more than the regular just action type games. This was a tiny hurdle in the beginning but he is all over it now and it encourages reading practice for him.

Excellent value and dependable quality

This video game was in perfectly playable condition, with no scratches or other mars to the surface affecting play. The value was phenomenal.

The only reason this is Good and not Excellent was the condition of the jewel case and missing manual with the video game.

I would recommend to other eBay members!

The main character, Ang, who is supposed to be the Avatar, and master all of the elements can only air bend through the game. He can't water bend or earth bend, and none of the characters fire bend. The game is in third person, and if you are not a huge Avatar fan, you will not enjoy the game.
