Movie synopsis
AUSTIN POWERS IN GOLDMEMBER, the third movie in the Austin Powers series, stars Mike Myers in director Jay Roach's James Bond, Sci-Fi, 1970s, funkadelic formula--a hyper-stylized backdrop to what is ultimately Myers' one-man show.GOLDMEMBER is a family affair. Austin has a few unresolved issues with his dear old dad, Nigel Powers (the dead ringer Michael Caine, who is also a good sport), and he hopes to work out some Freudian tension when he's not saving the world from the forces of evil. Myers flexes his actor muscles and portrays a more thoughtful, and--is it even possible--a slightly less geeky Austin in this film. Likewise, even the bad guys show some new personality: Dr. Evil reveals a penchant for talking like a hip-hop, wise-ass homeboy, and the new villain Goldmember (the latest in Myers' repertoire) is an enigmatic amputee with a heart of gold who speaks with a Dutch accent and eats his own peeling skin. If that's not disgusting enough, Fat Bastard, the greasy behemoth from the THE SPY WHO SHAGGED ME, appears again in GOLDMEMBER, delving into new and nasty scatological territory. But the joke's on us, because GOLDMEMBER's toilet humor is so extreme that it dissolves into a harmless fit of giggles, keeping viewers laughing from start to finish.

Editorial reviews

"...Down-and-out funny....One of the crucial delights of GOLDMEMBER is Mr. Myers's obvious continued pleasure in inhabiting his creation....After three editions, it's still flying high..."
New York Times - Stephen Holden (07/26/2002)

"...Knowles has a pleasant screen presence..."
Los Angeles Times - Kenneth Turan (07/26/2002)

"...The POWERS team has fashioned a comedy with more laughs than many..."
USA Today - Mike Clark (07/26/2002)

"...The movie is remarkably spry and inspired....Mike Myers and Austin Powers may stick to their old Beatle boots, but they've both come a long way, luvvy..."
Entertainment Weekly - Lisa Schwarzbaum (08/02/2002)

"...Inventive and offbeat....[With] wall-to-wall comedy of a sort found only in the mind of Mike Myers. And the supporting cast is, indeed, wonderful..."
Box Office - Wade Major (09/01/2002)

"...The Powers films work because of a sustained barrage of gags....The laugh-per-minute ratio is higher here than in any other currently running series of comedy star vehicles..."

A One Time Thing

Review For: Austin Powers in Goldmember (DVD, 2002, Full Frame; Infinifilm Series)

This movie suffers the same fate as many sequels; it doesn't hold a light to the original "Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery."

Like many sequels, the makers of this movie suffered from Let's Take a Similar Story Line and Cram More Stuff In Disease. So, because of this, the plot suffers. The movie lacks the smooth, finished quality of its predecessors.

However, the parts of the plot - that manage to survive - will entertain you.

A new villain is introduced, and while Mike Myers does a good job of it (As always), the new character simply fails to inspire the viewer. If the character wasn't there, it would not hurt the movie too greatly. The regular characters - such as Dr. Evil - still shine through wonderfully and will not cease to delight you.

As in all Austin Powers movies, the resurrection of 60's and 70's clothing, language, and attitudes never ceases to call up sentiment and amuse the viewer.

This is a "watch-once-then-store-or-give-it-away" movie.

Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002,dvd)

Review For: Austin Powers in Goldmember (DVD, 2002, Full Frame; Infinifilm Series)

Yeah Baby! Mike Myers is hilarious in Goldmember. Austin Powers and Dr. Evil find out they are actually long lost brothers in this crazy fun-filled story. Mini-Me changes sides, Dr. Evil turns good, Goldmember it a trip. This movie has so many laugh-out-loud jokes. It is well worth renting or buying!

Mike Myers keeps you rolling

Review For: Austin Powers in Goldmember (DVD, 2002, Full Frame; Infinifilm Series)

Another excellent Austin Powers movie. Mike Myers is hilarious. This movie will entertain you for hours and does not get old no matter how many times you watch it. The humor is somewhat perverse yet clean enough to let you kids watch. All around great movie. Buy this movie.
