Astro Boy (DVD, 2010)

Review For: Astro Boy (DVD, 2010)

Astro Boy was a true innovation in animation for its time. As a youth, I watched Astro Boy on a regular basis. It provided clean values of good against evil without objectionable language. As a professional in my fifties, this new big screen DVD provided a very entertaining evening for my grandson and myself. I purchased the DVD instead of the Blue Ray so my grandson could also watch it on his DVD player. However, it provided an excellent picture and graphics on by 55" plasma 1080p HD set.
This is great family entertainment without any profanity or hidden agendas. This was simple symbolic good vs. evil. It will be watched many times. It is well worth the price for enjoyable family entertainment that all ages can watch. The story illustrates how humanity is not who we are, but how we act. We all need a hero deserving of our admiration, and as Astro Boy says one time in the movie, "I was made for this!"

Astro-The Full Original Series

Review For: Astro Boy (DVD, 2010)

My 7-year old son and I enjoyed the Astro Boy movie, so we though to check out the older, original series. I'd never seen it back when it was on television, so it was all new to me. The 5 DVDs contain the entire season of programming, each one with at least 4 or 5 episodes on it, so it's a full offering of Astro, the original. Interestingly, the screenwriters altered some of the character positions for the recent movie, but the spirit of these older originals was certainly all kept for the viewers. These are black and white animations, but the artwork, the story lines, and the characterizations are all top tier. My son must have watched the whole 5-DVD set at least 5 times in the first couple of days we had it! Very enjoyable. Highly recommended for those who liked the movie and can appreciate the B & W artwork. Fun stuff.

Astro Boy Movie 2009

Review For: Astro Boy (DVD, 2010)

We saw this movie in the theater with my 2 and 4 year old sons, who loved it and so bought the dvd when it was available. This is a good movie with typical superhero fighting and action in it and a storyline above their heads. That didn't phase them (they loved the comedy and action scenes) and in one way was a help. The whole premis of the movie is that Dr. Tenma builds Astro to replace his son Toby who is accidentally killed. The movie does show Toby killed, but carefully. He is at one point trapped in a room with a dangerous robot (crying for help to his dad), the robot makes this huge energy blast that fills the room, and Toby is gone, leaving only his hat behind. My kids didn't understand what happened, but I know other kids who did and cried. Again, you don't see anything happen, but you know. Overall, the movie is fun and exciting, and is worth seeing.

Astro Boy (DVD, 2010)

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
Review For: Astro Boy (DVD, 2010)

Astro Boy is a young robot from futuristic Metro City. Created by a brilliant scientist named Tenma and powered by pure positive "blue" energy that gives him such abilities as x-ray vision, inhuman speed, and flight, the wide-eyed android longs to find his true place in the world. He sets out on an epic journey that brings him face to face with an underworld army of robots and some of the strangest creatures ever to walk the Earth, and along the way learns to experience human feelings and emotions. "Astro Boy" is well produced and is very entertaining. There was plenty of comedy to keep the movie light and lots of action to keep things moving. There are many endearing characters in this movie and interesting villains also. All in all, well and cleverly done. I recommend this to anyone who wants some light-hearted entertainment.

A Robot-boy who's more boy!

Review For: Astro Boy (DVD, 2010)

I recently watched the first series with my four year old grandson. He loved it,
in fact he's big on anime because I give him dvds and share my birthdays with his Mom viewing them. He was so excited to watch this movie he broke the first one taking it out of the case! He's already watched Astro Boy twice, and I gave the new one to him yesterday.
I like the craft and imagery of the movie. I enjoyed the surprise Toby felt when he discovered his feet were rockets. My grandson liked the guns in his butt! The show reflects the current blindside of using the world as a landfill and the ignorance of those who base their power on war and 'red power'.
I rate this better than Transformers, but my grandson loves them too-and Spidey,
and Buzz and Woody. His first movie was How To Train Your Dragon, and he enjoyed that too. I'm glad Astro Boy wasn't released in 3D, it's already very special.
