Sun Tzu's the Art of War is a classic, read by businessmen, soldiers, and anyone else in competitive fields. In many ways, this book is one that can be read for a minute, and pondered for an hour. I got it because I enjoy doing battle simulations, and thought this might help.
James Clavell's version is well worded, easy to understand, and clear. He sometimes has footnotes one the pages, and there are many illustrations throughout the text from ancient Chinese engagements.
Great book, good translation.
I love this pocket version of "The Art Of War". It is a convenient way to bring the ideology of Sun Tzu with you wherever you go.
What person can deal with life and all that it brings (especially in the business world) without an understanding of this book and the mind that created it. It is a clear and precise understanding of the business world and all the mechanics of life you may encounter.
If you Love "The Art Of War" and utilize it's resources in your daily life as I do you should not pass up on this little treasure.
This was purchased to add to a growing library of philosophy and military tactical advice. Many people may ask how this works together, in true military tactics winners often utilize philosophy and peaceful posturing versus actual combat. This book is the translated works of multiple ancient Chinese Emperors, generals and philosophers and their "understanding" of the Art of War. Thomas Cleary is a true genius when it comes to translating ancient Chinese texts' one of the best in his field, renowned for it he creates a pleasurable reading experience with his knowledge and translations as well as the way he puts it together.
It is a book that any true student of philosophy or military tactics should include in their library.
This is an excellant book for someone that can understand thoughts conveyed in short simple sentences . This book is comprised of answers to unasked questions . The questions are part of the answer . The book was written by a Chinese General about 800 years ago and has to do with observations made by him through the years of many battles that will indicate those things one must know to prevail . Modern day example : "The person that knows land navigation will find their way . The person that does not know land navigation must hope to be found" .He learned from experience and now you can learn from his . This is not geared just to war but to the art of knowing your advisary and the borders within which you are functioning .These observations are necessary in business as well . Pretty simply put , you must pay attention to all the aspects of any given situation and know how to use this information to your advantage . You can't lose by purchasing this book . If it does not help you it would make an excellent regift .
I really was enlightened by this book. Some of the principles in this book on war tactics, can be applied in our daily lives(preparation, strategy, etc.)The only problem with the book was,to fully understand some of the practices and strategies, you at times had to re-read pages several times to understand what was being explained.Overall a good book.
