CNET Editors' review

Excellent
  • THE GOOD

The Apple iPod Touch has a large, video-worthy screen, a cutting-edge interface, and Wi-Fi Internet, e-mail, and music download capabilities.

  • THE BAD

The iPod Touch may cost too much for you, depending on your needs.

  • THE BOTTOM LINE

The iPod Touch is a beautiful product, inside and out, but prepare yourself for sticker shock.

Review For: Apple iPod touch 1st Generation (16 GB)
This is a great Ipod as far as design. The battery life is good for being used. Design is very nice for a generation 1 it still looks very modern and nice. The seller had taken very good care of the particular one we purchased. The features are not as good as newer generations. Ipod has WIFI and lots of space for songs. However, if it hasn't been updated to a newer version of software you cannot use it for playing any games. The updated software version is no longer available for this generation to my knowledge. Have contacted Itunes and Apple to try to purchase the updated software. If you want an Ipod that is capapble of holding lots of tunes and WIFI this is the Ipod for you. If you want to play games on this IPod be sure to check with the seller to see if the Ipod is capable of downloading and playing games. Ipod is good for the money paid.

Runs apps music and web!! Can't beat it!

Created: 03/27/11
Review For: Apple iPod touch 1st Generation (16 GB)
Well I first started looking at 8gb and realized that 16gb was about 10$ more on average so go with the bigger size. But what I really love about this touch is that even aging it still runs my favorite games with no lag. Sure some of the new stuff will only work with the 4.0 OS but it'll take them a while to adapt everything to it. I mean for 90$ you get games music great screen I love the thing and now cases and screen protectors are a 1$! I'd have to say that my biggest dislike is that I have to use Apples format and program. I find it very hard to find thing the 3.1.3 update took me forever to find on thier site I had to use google. Last I chose this Ipod because I work on the touches replacing batteries and this generation has a better battery and its so much easier and cheaper to replace. We charge 10-15$ more for other generation ipods because we have to dissasmeble the whole touch. 1st gen is snap off the back solder old one off and new one in.

Love my ipod touch

Created: 08/31/10
I love my ipod touch. I use it all the time, I feel lost without it! I bought the ipod touch because I wanted the wifi and app abilities of an iphone, without the monthly cost. I have the 1G 8GB Ipod Touch and I find it great. It has great sound quality, fast internet capabilities, good video playback, and it is easy to use. The only downsides to it would be that it does not have external speakers, but a cheap small speaker can be purchased to plug into the headphone jack. The other downside would be that it does not have a camera, no mic, and some newer things are for the 2G and 3G only, like the new OS4 software. Those are the only downsides I have found, but I bought an external speaker for like $2 on ebay, I can load pics onto it through itunes, and my 3.3.1 software has worked just fine. The mic limits you to not being able to use some app such as Type and Talk, Talking TomCat, and the Glee app that I wanted, but for the bargain I got it for on ebay, it was worth the trade off. I love my iTouch! Get one!

1st Generation iPod Touch (8GB)

Created: 08/23/10
I purchased this iPod just a few days ago. I had no idea that there were different options available on the iPods and thought they would all have the same functionality. To my surprise, the 1st Generation iPod does not have the built-in speakers; you have to have the earphones to hear it. That is my only issue with this iPod. It works great; after you learn how to use a touch screen. The capabilities it has reach farther than I thought with internet, email, games, music, movies, videos, and all the apps that can be downloaded. Very impressed with the iPod. I am buying another iPod (3rd Generation) that does have the built-in speakers, but I am also keeping this one. My husband loves it! I would recommend the iPod in general, but would suggest a 2nd Generation or higher to get the built-in speakers.
