The iPhone 5's camera is smaller, hardier and enhanced by the more powerful chip, and the front-facing camera is bumped up to a 720p version. Wi-Fi is improved and the inclusion of 4G is a must have in the current phone world.
But it is the size, design and shape that will win the most admiring glances. The all glass and aluminium chassis can claim to be the thinnest smartphone, at 7.6mm 'thin'.

The 4-inch screen keeps the retina resolution despite the added length, which Apple has brought in to make the iPhone 5 more movie-friendly. 
In the hand the Apple iPhone 5 certainly feels comfortable. You can see why Apple decided to keep the width the same, since it fits the hand nicely – just as its predecessors have. 
The move away from glass is a welcome one, and the aluminium manages to bring a premium feel in a notable lighter device.
A new chip definitely brings a snappier feel. Many people with an iPhone 4 will be all too used to the lagginess when trying to do anything even slightly complex with the devices, and the Apple iPhone 5 manages to take things on as far as you would expect in more than two years.
What is perhaps more suprising is just how much snappier this feels than the iPhone 4S. The A6 chip clearly has a significant amount more grunt under its smaller hood – but what is surprising is that you can immediately tell when you use the device alongside its predecessor.
Practically speaking, this probably isn't enough to make you want to leave a 4S unless you are a hardcore fan, but it will convince many iPhone 4 users to stick with the Apple ecosystem for another generation – and you get the impression that this is goal number one for the company. 
The added length could have made the phone unwieldy, but the loss of thickness ensures that it maintains its balance and premium feel.
Those people who have got used to the iPhone 4 and 4S will certainly notice the difference that the new iPhone 5 design brings. It served to make the device feel more modern, and the materials used keep that premium feel that Apple has put so much stock in. 

Thinner, lighter and more screen were always on the cards, and the fans' desires are understandable.
The aluminium backplate feels lovely – just textured enough to feel very different from its predecessors and, to our taste, preferable to the glass. 
The iPhone 5 screen is bright and colourful, although it's difficult to truly appreciate the small upgrade that Apple has made in the bright lights of the show room.

The camera is also more difficult to test properly, but it certainly seemed faster to take a photo, something that can be a frustration on older iPhones.
From a software perspective, iOS 6 brings with it a wealth of new features.

My son wrote this:

"I try not to biased to the fact that it's the very latest generation of iPhone, but it's simply the best phone I've ever had! I just barely owned this iPhone for about half a week, so I may haven't pin down what other important factors needed to be jot down in review.
I personally used to look down on Apple for some personal reasons (Windows user, school, etc), but this iPhone might just be one of the factor why I changed my view about it. I still understand why some people can see this iPhone negatively, due to it's "conservative" nature that won't allow us to truly own this phone, then leaving some people to craving for the jailbreak, etc.
I like this phone, and ATM, I think I'm fine by playing with its own rule; I personally still count on doing many things with my laptop, so I haven't had any problems expecting iPhone to handle and use it as a substitute to what I did on laptop. I also think I overestimated Siri's capabilities in someway.. and I thought it was built inside the iPhone (you need an internet connection to use Siri). Siri is still absolutely the best voice assistant on its capabilities (words detection) and other features.
I am still on my long way on exploring this guy, but I totally recommend this to people who loves visually, friendly & simple phone, to all-OS' fanboys, and even to all other people whom never touched smartphones.

Some points that might need to be highlighted:
PS: (*) means like other Apple devices (assume at least iPhone/iPod 4G)

Positive:
+ Battery life = Ridiculously long on standby/lock mode (still, ALWAYS depends on the tasks running)
+ Processor's speed = Very smooth and quick
+ *Touchscreen = Very accurate & detailed
+ *Friendly user interface systems.
+ Best iPhone's design = Very elegant & slate design.
(#misc# I found it also quite exciting on uncovering the box if you bought this iPhone new inside the box with everything)
+ Obviously a lot more that I haven't mentioned.

Negative:
- (Current) Price = Obviously as many people mentioned, the current price seems a bit overpriced to me. Buy this for the fact that it's a smart phone, not only a "phone". You can buy a decent laptop over this phone.
- *Limitation/Restriction = If you're at least an intermediate techie, you'll find out that it has pretty strict rules of what can do or not do (and lead to jailbreak)

- *Hard to/cannot modify and customize some things that the iPhone IS actually capable of.
- *No manual data transferring = The only ways to transfer data to this iPhone are limited to syncing with iTunes and having the data originally from iCloud (or maybe other VERY limited methods).

# *If you plan to not purchasing anything from the Appstore, you don't have to put your credit/card numbers while registering an Apple ID (google about "apple ID without credit")
# You might need to switch to nano SIM card if you haven't
# *Double click the home button (not on the locked screen) to kill some apps. Killing unused apps might increase the battery's life.
# *Jailbreak basically offers exactly the things that you might not be able to do because of the restriction, but it's a "use it at your own risk".
# The jailbreak for the iOS 6 & 6.1, evasi0n, (iPhone 5's current OS) was just newly available since February 4th."

I LOVE MY IPHONE 5! HERE'S WHY...

It is much much faster compared to the 4/4S. Also the screen size increase is subtle but I think it would be very hard to go back. Especially when it comes to surfing the net in landscape with the full screen mode in iOS6. The increase in color saturation is very noticeable and it is beautiful. Again, would be hard to go back. Also the LTE is blazing fast. It's incredible actually. Other improvements from the Iphone 4/4S is that it's Faster, bigger screen, very noticeable color saturation difference, lighter, thinner, better faster camera with face tracking and still shots in video, extremely fast LTE, much snappier overall, better call quality, no antenna issues and zero dropped calls to date. The battery life seems about the same except with heavy LTE usage. Still it's very good and sometimes it's actually better with normal usage (which it's not getting since I'm addicted to my new toy). Battery charge is as fast or faster. Some of my older apps have yet to be updated to the larger screen format and its annoying. Otherwise they work great. Much faster and the new color saturation makes games/video/photos look incredible. I put a hand braked copy of Finding Nemo on my phone as a demo and it looks amazing. The keyboard is slightly bigger/better in landscape and it's easier to type now. Longer form factor feels better in the hands to me as well..IPhone is elegant, beautiful, and fast. Most Android phones can't claim all three or even the first two IMO. The only things i would like fro them to add/improve on is widgets, better notifications, active wallpaper, easier settings changes for things like cellular data/wifi/Bluetooth/brightness​.

The best smartphone!
