Apple's iPhone 4S has a faster processor and an upgraded camera, all the benefits of iOS 5, and a useful and immensely fun voice assistant. Call quality on the Sprint model is admirable, and the data speeds, while certainly not 4G, get the job done.
It's about time we get a larger screen.
The iPhone 4S isn't the king of cell phones, but it's part of the royal family nonetheless. Even without 4G and a giant screen, this phone's smart(ass) voice assistant, Siri, the benefits of iOS 5, and its spectacular camera make it a top choice for anyone ready to upgrade.

You can read all the tech specs on other reviews. This is my first smartphone and it is great. I made a huge leap from a 1st generation iPod touch to this iPhone 4S and it is wonderful. The 1st gen iTouch could not upgrade iOS any further and lots of apps would not install due to older iOS. The 4S phone is fast (obviously I am comparing to 1st gen touch), but I also love such feature as the linking feature to build a calendar event from an e-mail that contains a date and time (date and time in e-mail show as link, click link, create calendar event, cool!). Quickly add a new Contact in similar way. I got a 4S for my wife also (she upgraded from a more recent iTouch 64GB). Not as big of an upgrade leap for her, but she likes her 4S a lot. Also, I am so glad I went with a 64GB. I am filling it up with free apps and other stuff (pictures, video, etc.). Glad to have the extra room. Was already on PagePlus. Had to find a local dealer to activate ($15 each phone). Have the $12 plan with low data limit, but went the first month without using any data (wifi at work, home, and shops was fine for me). I keep the Cellular Data setting turned off until I need it--with no "bleeding" of data for push notifications or whatever they are. Totally in control of data usage--great! Tested data download at the end of payment cycle. Saw some usage, not too bad for Siri and some GPS. Have LEAF Electric Vehicle. Posted a PlugShare entry at a charging station for about .2 MB--not bad. Nice to have a little 3G access for GPS, Siri, PlugShare, etc--if I need it. I don't download videos to watch or play movies--too busy for that stuff. The 4S is great tool, has some nifty apps (education, language, etc.--this is what I need--not a gamer), and brings me up-to-date technology-wise without spending a huge monthly mobile phone bill. Very pleased with my used eBay purchase. Do your best to make sure a used iPhone has a clean ESN. Don't bother calling PagePlus or chatting to request activation of a 4S (they can activate a 4-only, but I wanted Siri). Find a local dealer, or you could try one of the eBay activation vendors/sellers. My concern about them is that they might "sell my phone number" and then I would get a lot of calls. I did not research their privacy policies. 15 bucks at the local dealer was clean, saved me time, and I was on my way. Put your research time into finding the right iPhone and price for you. Good luck, have fun, and be careful out there.
Our camera team has spent some professional time with the iPhone 4S, so check out our in-depth findings of the snapper.
The iPhone 4S caught many by surprise, with Apple expected to release the iPhone 5 - but instead we got an iPhone 4 with overhauled innards.
While the masses were initially disappointed, the iPhone 4S features a glut of top-end tech that is designed to put it on a par with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S2 - but does it manage to do that?
The changes to the iPhone 4S are easy to document - the camera has been upgraded to 8MP (with an improved aperture ratio), the CPU is now the same dual-core A5 processor as seen in the iPad 2, and a seven time increase in graphical processing power.
Also we've got Siri, Apple's voice recognition service - will this be a game changer for mobile phones or will it be nothing more than a gimmick?
As we've mentioned, the iPhone 4S is almost identical in outward design to the iPhone 4, which might irk those that like to show that they've got the most up to date device from Apple when out and about with friends.
However, the flip side of this is that things like the plethora of iPhone 4 covers on the market at the moment will still fit.
Apple has slightly changed the design of the iPhone 4S somewhat though, by changing to a dual-band aerial design, making sure it doesn't encounter an embarrassing repeat of antenna-gate we had to endure with the iPhone 4.
For all those that haven't seen the older version of the phone, we'll take you on a tour of the new handset: the top of the iPhone 4S houses the power/lock button, as well as the headphone jack, plus a microphone for noise cancellation.
The right-hand side of the phone is devoid of any buttons, but holds the slot for the micro SIM card, which pops out using the included tool (or a paperclip).
The bottom of the phone is pretty standard, with the Apple connector and dual speakers which pump out the (actually quite decent) sound.
The left-hand side of the phone sees the rounded volume keys, with the top one of these also acting as the camera shutter button to make it easy to snap with the new iPhone. We've also got the silencer switch too, which has been slightly moved upwards from the previous iteration.
As you can see, Apple has altered its antenna band technology to move the gaps that plagued the iPhone 4's reception to a less-touchable location.
The iPhone 4S comes with iOS 5.
The iPhone 4S is the flagship model for the new iOS software from Apple, making it much snazzier once more.
We'll walk you through the big changes to start with - and Notifications is up there with the best of them.
The new system apes Android by using a drop down menu from pretty much anywhere in the phone to let you see all manner of updates, weather news and messages, plus new notifications will now ping across the top of the screen rather than plopping straight into the middle of the screen like before and disrupting whatever you were doing.
It's not revolutionary by any means, but it's well-integrated and makes the whole system feel a whole lot different to iOS 4.
The lock screen is now called into more use than ever before too, with new notifications sitting on top to be easily accessed without needing to mess about inside the phone.
2ND HALF TO COME SOON! THANKS, WE HOPED YOU ENJOYED OUR REVIEW OF THE IPHONE 4S. ANY QUESTIONS, FEEL FREE TO ASK!!!
If you have heard about how bad this phones battery life is, please read the bottom portion, This phone's battery lasts longer than any of the 3 other smartphones I've had.
This phone has been wonderful for me, I've had this phone for about 3 months now, this is my first Iphone. I'm in Medical School so it's very important to be able to keep track of my Schedule which is extremely time consuming, especially compared to when I was an undergrad. My point is I have almost no life, I always have something I have to do, and this is were Siri kicks in. When I bought the phone I considered it to be a novelty, but she makes it easy to set reminders and put different items on your calendar. This phone has an abundance of features(once again, read the instruction book) that I love, the GPS is extremely accurate where my previous phone put my location nearly a mile away from where I was actually at. I have yet to experience a dropped call or been to an area where I didn't have Service, My residence is on Jupiter Island which is in Palm Beach County but I'm living in an apartment in Miami near UM's school of medicine, my point is that I take a very rural route going back and forth and at worst sometimes it drops down to one bar in some very isolated area's, so that tells me they fixed the antennae issue. Also, since I use mine so much Verizon has a case which isn't much larger than an otterbox, but the case itself has a built in 1800mah battery which has a switch where the case itself will recharge your battery, I think it's spelled iMophie or something like that, with the proper settings and making sure there are no apps running you are not using, it has excellent battery life compared to my last Smartphone even without my case which is also a charger.(ALL Iphones should have a case of some kind.)
(a brief word about battery life)My first bit of advice, read the instruction book. If your battery is going dead after less than 6 hours then you probably don't know how to shut down active programs which when built up will drain your battery, this happened to my brother, after using the built in feature of closing down apps that you THINK are not running, but are in the background, just hitting the back button does NOT stop any of the programs or even the app store or iTunes to stop running, afterwards his battery lasted more than 3 times longer and was also faster. You have to hit the button at the bottom 3 times, on the third time hold the button down for about 3 seconds, this will bring up a bunch of icons, This shows you the apps running in the background which are eating up memory AND battery life, even if you think an app is closed, if you haven't done this, every item you've used will accumulate, when the running apps come up, then you click the red button on it with the white stripe (it's similiar to removing apps, however, when you do this the screen pops up like when you activate siri, when doing this you are not deleting anything, for more info on how to do this I suggest calling apple tech support. anyway, any apps down there should be cleared out. This alone will make your Battery Time MUCH longer. I won't go into all the ways to save battery life, except to say that once a month let the phone go to where it's almost dead and then charge, this prevents a decline in battery life.
Highly recommended, fortunately in the current day and age we have a wide selection of smartphones that we can choose from. Anywhere from cellphones that replace all of your digital devices to just simple phones used for the basic function of making phone calls, yet not all of them work properly and all the time. After trying a variety comparable cellular devices i have settled on the Iphone 4S 16g version from Verizon Wireless. Key point is: It actually works(I know, surprising). I have owned this device for approximately a month now and had no issues whatsoever.
Some of the things i like about the device would include: This phone is very fast, almost instant application loading and seamless functionality.
Amazing display, all the colors are very vibrant and its just a pleasure to look at even.
Seamless functionality, the phone functions great and without any problems.
Amazing selection for applications and games.
Some of the things i dislike about the phone:
It's battery life could be a little bit better, it does last me a full day unlike some of its counterparts but whenever i heavily use it i need to put it on a charger during the day.
Siri (it's personal assistant feature) is occasionally unavailable due to the lack of signal or apple servers been clogged up.
Majority of the applications are costly, yes they may be a dollar or two but it all adds up.
This product tramples other current products in its category. Highly recommended.
I'm not an English native speaker, but I hope you will understand what I want to tell you) I'll start with iPhone's overall rating. I'll give it 4 stars out of 5. You ask why? I'll explain it lower. Productivity: 5 stars. You know, in my country not everyone can manage to buy an iPhone because of lack of money. (But about the price later). There's very few people, who have it. And that's the reason why they are always surprised, when they see this wonderful Retina display, amazing 8.0 megapixel camera in action, when they see me playing such oldschool games like Re-Volt, Crazy Taxi or GTA 3. They say: "Wow! You have your powerful PC, which you can put into your pocket!". And that's not only about these great features, as there are dozens of them: FaceTime videocalling system, iBooks, Newsstand and much more other. Really, this phone is very reliable and powerful as for the phone. -1 star is because of it's battery life. Of course, it works for a really long time in standby mode, but if to use all the great features, that were brought to us by Apple inc. you'll have to live right near the socket or to take some energy source with you wherever you go. Be sure: unfortunately, you'll have to charge it every day. But don't be scared, this is the way every modern smartphone works, as almost all their batteries have the same capacity. The price isn't small. Even if you have such an amount of money, before buying you must decide whether you really need such a complicated (with a lot of possibilities),, well-designed, powerful phone, or whether you need it only to make photos in front of the mirror, so that everyone could see, that you can manage to buy an "applephone". If you need an iPhone just for photos, you'd better buy a cheaper phone, stick an Apple trademark sticker to it and make some photos. All the money that you save you can give to charity. But still, this is your choice.
