Fabulous compact tablet - computer!

I purchased this mainly to use as a book reader as I didn't like the Kindle it was not bright enough for me (I have a visual impairment), and the lack of touch-screen seemed old school.

With the Safari browser and 3g the Ipad 2 is a full-feature compact computer perfect for travel. Plus you don't have to pull it out of your bag at security! The screen clarity is amazing and the browser is fast. You can purchase minutes for the 3g month-by-month, no contract. We downloaded movies (ahead of time) and watched them on the plane (saved over renting the airlines video player for $14 each, and used the WiFi at the hotel. We were able to check our email, etc. quickly and easily. You can buy accessories to allow you to download pictures, run two headphones, and you can buy a compact wireless router to use if your hotel doesn't have wifi. You can use apple's book reader, or download kindle for ipad which gives you more lower-priced book options.

My only complaint would be that the ipad 2 is a bit heavy especially since you really need to put it into a case/cover to protect the glass screen from breakage, and back from scratches. You aren't 'going to want to hold it in your hand for extended periods, so buy a great cover with stand options. The charger plug is a bit precarious and somewhat difficult to plug into as it's kind of of on the curve of the body.

Improvements would be gorilla glass, built in card reader, usb port, and lighter weight. The perfect case would also be a great addition, if there is such a thing. I do love this little computer!

If you have wifi and will never travel with your ipad 2 or take it out of your house you don't really need the 3g, but if you travel, or want to use the map feature which is like GSP when driving you will need the 3g.
