Giant LCD makes the iMac a home-video champ; updated specs stay competitive with the rest of the desktop PC field; expanded upgrade options available at the time of purchase.
Configurator upgrades are expensive; limited aftermarket upgradability means you won't be able to add a Blu-Ray or HD DVD drive down the road; no media card reader.
Other vendors might offer more flexible configurations and better deals on components, and the specter of HD video looms darkly, but the 24-inch iMac's sprawling display and convincingly capable features should set most people's minds at ease. We highly recommend this new iMac as a PC that doubles as a secondary home-entertainment system.

Great computer. Much better than any PC I have ever seen. The perfect computer for anyone who wants an easy computer to use and a computer that is super fast. I will only buy apple computers from now on. I currently have two and will buy another soon.
I needed to invest in an Apple computer to add the Apple OS to my resume, but I didn't want to break the bank doing it. This was one of the first models of the iMac but was also one of the first with an Intel processor. It came with Mac OS Tiger installed and was giving me fits because it would only boot in safe mode.
I installed 4GB of RAM and bought a Snow Leopard upgrade disk then fought with it for 2 days to get it to install the upgrade (it turns out it was overheating issues, which this model was notorious for) but once that installed, it seems that there were also driver upgrades included that resolved all the issues. I also installed a fan control application to keep the internal fans at their highest RPM to help the overheating.
I've upgraded again since so now it's running the Lion OS like a charm.
It's not compatible with the new Mountain Lion because of the 64bit kernel conflicts with the 32bit graphics chipset (common with the earliest Intel processor Mac models) but it's as current as I need and has way more zip than you would ever think a 6 year old computer would ever have with the newest OS installed. A PC that age wouldn't install the newest Windows OS, for sure!
It's gorgeous! It's fast and it has a lot of memory. I decided to buy it because I'm starting my business and for the programs I need (ie protools and etc.) the reviews for the Mac stood out so that help with my choice of buying a Mac instead of a pc.
I have always wanted a Mac computer. This is my first one. It works great and is easy to use. I like it a lot better than my PCs.
Once I got setup and got several anti-virus programs to run through the files this G5 has run well with few exceptions. The large screen allows slide shows and gives a better work area. And, with 2.5 GB ram and 250 HD, I think it will work well into the future. I still have a G5 from about eight years ago and it has only been in the shop twice during that time. The Mac computers seem to be very durable and usable over long periods of time.
