I decided to buy this iBook because I knew I would need a Mac in the future for a project. The G3 900MHz processor is old, but tolerable, and I have older laptop parts, namely a 256mb PC100 module and an 80gb IDE hard drive that I could upgrade it with.
For $160, I am not disappointed. Mac OS 10.2 is basic, but I will be upgrading it to 10.3 after installing the new hard drive. Even so, I knew that Mac OS was pretty, and even 10.2 is pretty.
Very nice impression of Mac I have to say!
i am used to the newer macs with the snow leopard, but have a young son and also his grandmother that are not used to macs or any computer for that matter, but this a great laptop for any beginner wanting to transition to mac or to just learn. it's a bit slower than i am used to but holds alot and i highly recommend it. it doesn't break the bank and does have some of the icons that are available in the newer osx, not like the powerbook g4 with the first osx. i am very pleased with this mac ibook for someone young, in school or an older person wanting to transition into the mac arena!
This is a great iBook to have laying around in an emergency, eg your desktop goes kapput and you have to access your emails. If you can buy a very cheap laptop (as I did) it is worth it as a stop gap. You can always sell it on when it has served its purpose. Myself I got the 500mHz version which seems slower than dial up modem speeds. My advice, use in an emergency then give to the kids to play/learn on.
bought it for my 9year old and just like the ad said it is very slow, did buy it as a toy for the child but it freeze's a lot, more work it seems then play
