I've had many Power Macs before this one mainly a G4 Quicksilver dual 800mhz and it was a great little machine for what it was, until it just went poop :(. I started on a mission on looking for a new Power Mac as it has been years since Ive had to purchase a new one. Seeing how prices started to drop this one was right in my price range and i will never regret purchasing this G5 although its not an Intel mac nor can i install snow leopard i don't mind just like the saying goes if it works don't fix it.
Teh initial setup i received it in was
Dual 1.8GHz PowerPC G5 processors
1GB DDR400 Ram
80GB WD Drive
120GB WD Drive
New Setup made a world of a difference now at
3GB or DDR400 Ram
250GB Primary OS drive cloned with ccc.
320GB Secondary Drive time machine backup drive.
After the initial upgrade this machine fly's I however do have some issues running some of the newer apps as they are no longer universal but eventually i will be upgrading to a intel mac or macbook or a 13" mbp.
Here are some Pros and Cons of the machine that i feel would help someone out purchasing a powerpc system.
Pro's
- Dual Processors (Might not be 2.0ghz but still quick)
- Expandable to 4GB of Ram
- Large Hard Drive capacity they can take upto 1TB.
- Fast and easy machine and very affordable mac.
Con's
- PowerPC processor - unable to run Snow leopard until someone finds a way.
- And Cannot run some of the newer apps as they have not included a universal binary :(
Overall:
This is a great machine for the price, i would recommend this to anyone. :)
I originally learned computers using Windows. I've wanted a Mac for some time now for their superior audio and video editing capabilities. Needless to say, I am not dissapointed! The Mac OS X is a little different than Windows and a lot more stable. I would reccomend the Apple Power Mac to anyone into serious work using a computer!
Works Great. Machine is in Super condition. Very fast at least in comparison to my PC running Vista, which is a real dog. Sloooooow.
I decided to buy this product because I needed to upgrade from the g4 powermac that I had, and so I did. The only problem I have is that the computer does not have an airport. This problem is preventing me from going online to register my software and equipment.I really want to give fives across the board but I cannot because I now have a 5 hundred dollar computer that I cannot use because of the airport being removed.
This computer is fast and reliable, capable of running dual monitors and multiple applications. As a first time Mac user I'm very impressed!
