Pros: Excellent machine, well built, performs well under any size workload. Strong and sturdy case that withstands unintentional kicks (being under my desk it receives a few each day). Ports are fairly well laid out, although USB ports are sparse compared to other machines requiring a USB hub for any more than 3 devices. Built-in Bluetooth standard allows for wirelessly connecting bluetooth mice and keyboards (provided after purchasing you have enough money to afford them), which is a handy way to free up USB ports. For it's time graphics card was well-suited for most any projects/requirements, and probably usable for most of today's needs still.
Cons: EXPENSIVE! Even for a four-to-five year old model still expect to pay what you would for a BRAND NEW Windows-based equivalent! Although this is a terrific machine, I would not suggest purchasing unless you have a significant amount of expendable cash, or just can't deal with Windows. As mentioned before, there are very few USB ports, although the keyboard does have a small built-in hub with two ports on back, however they are USB 1.1, making file-transfer (should you choose to hook up things like memory sticks) very slow and painful for files with any significant size.
Recommendation: Unless you're a Mac-only user, or would like to own a piece of history (the G5 processors were rumored to be the first processors in the world that were 64-bit) I'd suggest skipping this one and going with a Windows machine. I'm happy with mine and use it daily, but sometimes compatibility issues can keep me from doing everything I'm able to with some of this model's Windows-based counterparts.
I got a good price of $68.00 with $30.00 shipping for this beauty. I bought this product because ina few years they may be worth more then you expect. These computers are the first 64 - bit computers. I also bought it because my Mac Pro 11 is really slow so I wanted a cheap way to get a new desktop. Pros and Cons. Pros: Speed, price, history, awesome. Cns: Ethernet only, 2003 of age, and low ram. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap way to get out of the PC level of budget.
This is an AMAZING mac to be so old! It's perfect. I had one little hard drive problem but the people I bought it from fixed that for me right away, and it's perfect! I'm running OSX 10.5 on it, it only has 2GB RAM but it runs so smooth! I love it and use is just as much as I use my new Macbook Pro!
