This notebook is powerful and a Desktop replacement .
It has all the power needed . Powerful Intel core 2 due processor 3.8 Gh with 4 GB of DDR3 RAM . Enough hard drive space to store all the pictures , video and user data ( 500 GB) .
Dual Video processor to give ultimate Video Performance . (NVIDIA Geforce 9400M + 9600M GT Graphics ) . Watching movies is fun on a 17" which is matched with the video card.
Lots of ports ( like USB , Firewire , Ethernet , Bluetooth , wireless , Display port , SD slot and many more . This makes it the complete Desktop replacement .
Defiantly one of the best Desktop Replacement .
This is my 3rd 17" MBP, and although it is amazing, there are a few things i do not like about it: Previous 17's had surprisingly great sound, but this new 17" has horrible sound. Speaker grill holes are like pinholes, and the sound is very thin and tinny.
Also, the new glass trackpad. What a bad design. I had to actually open the laptop up to adjust the click pressure, it was VERY loud (CLICK) and hard to press down. I very much miss the older separate button.
Screen resolution is incredible, but with that higher rez, system fonts and text within all applications is much smaller, so if you have bad eyesight, you might want to pass on the 17" and go for the 15".
The actual unit is much more soundly built then previous versions. The billet aluminum housing is very stout. Look likes it's going to hold up to years worth of use.
I purchased mine used WITH apple-care, off someone on ebay. Saved about $1000 in the end buy doing this. I would recommend doing your research, the Applestore being your last resort. (Unless you have bottomless pockets).
This is the second used Mac laptop I have purchased and I have been very pleased with both. I needed to upgrade to a faster machine as the 5 year old model was now too slow. The MacBook Pro 17 is perfect for my needs and has all the features I was looking for. The lighted keyboard is also a nice touch.
I'm a fan, what else can I say. I wouldn't think of buying a PC. My son who has a top secret clearance and works on computer security told me the next home he buys will be a Mac because of the much more effective security systems. I've been using Macs for 28+ years. Bought the MacBook Pro so I could take my business with me when I travel.
good machine, everything works fine, enough power, very good full High Definition display, bit noisy hard drive and fun,
