Even though this laptop is five years old as I write this, it serves my needs well. Sure, it doesn't have USB 3, Thunderbolt or an SD card slot. It doesn't have the latest iCore CPU or a ton of RAM. But it is more than capable for the jobs an average user like me performs on a daily basis. I really bought it for the 17" screen - something Apple has not produced in a while in their laptop line. It is capable of running 10.9 Mavericks, but unless you need all the bells and whistles, I would recommend 10.8 Mountain Lion or 10.6 Snow Leopard. Overall this is a great machine!!
All I can say is I love my Mac. I've always wanted one and it became available just when I needed it.
I bought this computer because I drive trucks and still want to keep making music.
Except for the battery running down to fast (replacing) it's a perfect computer.
I haven't compared this computer to any other laptop, but I can say it's as fast as my desktop and that's a great thing.
I'd forgotten how much I loved the keys of this model year Macbook Pro. This Model Make, I think by far to date had the best keyboards, fluid yet firm. This Macbook looks like the Pro models that Apple intended them to be. Todays models may be much faster and more energy efficient, but this make Looks like the Mac Book Pro period.
Not necessarily for travel ( not for me anyhow) The screen real estate is plenty and for big spreadsheets, and the ability to do many of the latest Gestures in Mountain Lion, this Macbook Pro Arguably can fit the bill for small business and amateur photographers in my opinion. Or, Throw and SSD drive in here and it sorta really starts to move fast!!! Just a Sharp Laptop, looks great on any surface.
Keeps pace with todays software better than any 5+ year old laptop.
This product is great for the money with some exceptions. The disc drive won't read all the disc put in the drive. After doing a google search on the subject found that its a common problem with all MacBooks. Just be sure to research whatever you are shopping for and get reviews.
