Powerful updates to the CPU and GPU; excellent battery life; still the best touch pad and gesture controls of any laptop.
Upgrades can get expensive; Thunderbolt is an unproven technology with as-yet no compatible products; still no dedicated HDMI, Blu-ray, or other wished-for options.
It's a hefty investment, but the combination of new high-end Intel processor options and AMD graphics makes the 15-inch MacBook Pro an all-around powerhouse, with the new Thunderbolt I/O port as an added bonus.

I purchased my 2011 15.4" MacBook Pro used on eBay. I'm always nervous buying big ticket items online, but I won the laptop at a great price. It arrived with some cosmetic damage I had not expected, so I contacted the seller. The seller agreed to pay for Apple to cosmetically refurbish the whole laptop. When I got it back from Apple, it was just like a brand new machine! It has performed flawlessly for me ever since. I did upgrade the memory to 8GB (mostly just because I could), but even at 4GB it was a very fast computer. The quadcore i7 processor is more than powerful enough to run multiple applications simultaneously, even taxing ones such as graphics/video rendering or professional audio recording and rendering. I upgraded from an earlier model MacBook Pro with a coreduo processor that was not able to keep up and would crash during heavy processing tasks. The larger trackpad w/ multi finger touch and sleeker design are also a plus. I find having all of the connections on one side makes hooking up to external devices much cleaner and more manageable. My only complaint is that the two USB ports are a little bit too close together making it impossible to connect two large thumb drives at the same time. This is easily remedied with a USB hub. I am very pleased with the FireWire 800 connection as well as the Mini DisplayPort which added the ability to output digital audio not available on my previous model MBP which only supported DVI. I have not yet used the Thunderbolt dock simply because I own no devices that support that connection. Overall, I am extemely pleased with my purchase and would highly recommend this model MacBook Pro.
Excellent quality product but on the high price side, very stable operating system. The video resolution on this product is outstanding. It produces exceptionally clean video playback. Very slimline, compact and sturdy in built. The audio playback provides comfortable listening you don't have to be close up like other laptops. If you are into serious computing try this product.
Bought this product to upgrade my music studio and make it more portable. The cost of a brand new Mac was prohibitive, but the Mac that I found on ebay was better suited to my needs and a fraction of the price of new. The machine is flawless.
Bought this to bring back and forth to college. But, i need a lot of computing power. I use a 27'' iMac, with 2.8ghz quad-core i7 at home. This macbook with the 2.2ghz quad-core i7 is great for what i need. Only upgrade i can think of doing would be going to an SSD. It does seem a little big and heavy, but it's a lot of computer so i don't really mind. My previous macbook was a core2duo and it doesn't come close to the new one. Overall its great. Worth the money. Apple always has high quality products.
excellent product, 100 recommended for design work and video editing. I have dede him a month ago and I love it, but 4GB of memory can be little editing photos or videos, high resolution, we must add 8GB or 12GB to experience better performance
