CNET Editors' reviewExcellent

Adds fast, efficient Intel Core i5, i7 processors, new Nvidia graphics, seamless switching between integrated, discrete GPUs...

At the top end of the price scale; still no HDMI, Blu-ray, or other high-end options.

Apple's 15-inch MacBook Pro keeps the same look and feel, but offers major internal changes, including an optional Intel Core i7 CPU, making it a very serious portable powerhouse.

No longer a PC...Mac all the way

I had just bought a new HP DV4 last year as a Valentine's Day gift for myself :) I loved how sleek it was and Windows 7 was a great OS. About ten months later, I started getting Blue Screens and Kernel Panics. The long and short after sending it to HP, reseating the memory myself, I still had the same issue. About 80% of my work is online or necessitates the use of a computer, so while my computer was on the fritz, my business was running sluggishly slow, as i only had my iPad to work from. With my previous HP not working to include the "new" one, I was finally fed up enough to buy a Mac.

I found this one on ebay and it is in pristine condition. The first thing I noticed when the screen came on was the quality and vibrance of the screen. It was like working with a mini flatscreen. I was thoroughly impressed with how fast it was as well as its ability of handling multiple tasks. The interface is intuitive, aesthetically pleasing and very easy to use. Everything I've created with the Mac is beautiful and top notch-- like a 5th avenue design from NYC. I was afraid I would run head on into the learning curve everyone talked about, but I haven't had any problems. I think this is in part due to me reading heavily about my new baby before it arrived...Learning about Hiding and Quitting applications, the top bar working for all programs etc.

I thought I would have to install Parallels or Virtual Box to run certain Windows programs (namely, Windows Live Writer and iDo for Wedding Professionals). At which point I said screw them both. I wasn't putting Windows on my new-to-me Mac. I was lucky enough to find that Mac has a "Snap" app that is just like Windows 7, only it is called Cinch. This made my user experience complete. I still have my trusty favorites like Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop, as well as new programs like Microsoft 11 and Pages 09. I must say, Pages may have one-upped Office in my book.

I haven't had any issues with it; it handles everything I throw at it seamlessly. I do believe Ive found my one computer that will be reliable for the next five years.

Perfect for the Creative Producer & Artist or Wonk

It would be difficult to overrate the beauty, elegance or ease of operation built into the MacBook Pro series. For running multiple graphic interfaces, film, graphics and web design and managing a business on the side with more power than an office full of PC's it's hard to imagine an equal. I work in dual PC and Mac environments and running Windows 7 on this machine is seamless and fluid. The start up and shutdown occurs in seconds. Snow Leopard 10.6.6 is an immensely simplified system for communicating in multi-mac environments. In short, Apple is long past being a Steve Jobs dependent vehicle - if in fact it ever really was. Or more to the point, Jobs and Tim Cook have worked the magic of the transition and the 2006 Intel imbued PowerBook has matured into a robust and formidable instrument of mass creation for the driven creative, artist, musician or multi-tasking executive.

Fast and powerfull macbook pro ever!

Why pay big bucks for new one?
Go get second hand one preown also good price.
Work great and weight is OK.
Look sharp sleek and style.
Very fast and powerfull machine I ever own.
Feel's like driving Ferrary with high speed on freeway (without ticket!).
How nice is it?
Try it your self you will love it!
Bad thing I will mention for this is the price, Hard to affort.
But it worth your money if you use for graphic or picture that require powerfull processor to process and make your job done fast.
Buy it while you can.

Apple MacBook Pro 15" loaded with defects

I'm on my second one of these dogs and I'm heading back to exchange it for another one. I'm really surprised to be experiencing the problems I've had with both machines. My wife has been bugging me for a mac for years now and we are both very let down so far. We're stuck in the mountains in Colorado for now and we fight over my older $400 Dell refurb laptop purchased through the Dell Outlet. It's far more reliabnle and stable than the POS mac. Hopefully the third attempt will live up to the expectations we had for an Apple computer. The first computer froze incessantly while using Safari and applecare said they would replace it if we shipped it back but we were still within the exchange time at Best Buy. The second computer has been more stable using Safari however it has been a nightmare as far as the video card(s) are concerned and other programs including the photo software included with my camera as well as iPhoto have been quitting unexpectedly and my photos were corrupted upon import into iPhoto. Now the computer is actually locking up along with a very weird video display of grayish screen with lots of vertical lines. Have to reboot boot several times before it goes away.

One very let down newbie to apple computers here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For HD editing and Multimedia Production is Great 2 year old machine!

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

This machine has the i5 processor (predecessor to the i7) and came with upgrade to 8G of RAM. The 8G Ram is what I consider the minimum for HD video editing and for ease of workflow. This machine although being a few years old is really nice for the price, The speakers are on top of the keyboard deck instead of under the keyboard. It has an SD card reader built in. Great features on the keyboard (lighting etc). Also has great all day battery life. I got mine with a 3rd party protection cover so no scratches on the aluminum also nice! Last Year for recommendations have told people go back only as far as March 2009 (if your budget can afford), but now as far as current apps and Snow Leopard or Lion - for me this is the oldest machine I would go back to... as far as speed and length of obsolescence in future.
