New aluminum unibody construction looks good, feels solid; giant trackpad; attractive edge-to-edge glass on display; new dual graphics provide more power or more battery life.
All-clicking trackpad is a bit awkward, at least initially; the extra-glossy screen won't appeal to everyone; switching GPUs not as seamless as it should be; similar performance to the cheaper 13-inch MacBook; still no media card slot.
Apple's redesigned 15-inch MacBook Pro boasts a redesigned aluminum body that's stunning, thin, and sturdy; a new trackpad with expanded functionality; and a dual graphics setup for either longer battery life or better performance, but there's now less incentive to spend extra for it because its 13-inch mainstream cousin received a greater overhaul.

This is probably my 6th computer, 5th laptop, and second Macbook.
I bought the MacBook Air in 2008 and it was brilliant. It served me well, but it was not potent enough for my needs.
Luckily, I've found this MBP and other than battery life, it is by far the best piece of machinery I've ever owned.
Once you go Apple, or lit keyboard rather, you never go back!
Battery life lasts for about two hours, which is pretty good for a three year old machine that runs so smoothly with the backup light, and keyboard light on. It's acceptable for something this powerful to suck up a lot of battery.
I am now able to get all the editing and work done I need. Psshh...no offense, but this Mac is also capable of running Windows 7, much better than any other Windows machine I've owned in the past.
It's size and weight are also perfect for me. Words can't describe how happy I am with my purchase!!!
This is my third MacBook Pro 15.4" This is my first uni-body MacBook Pro. I really liked the previous MacBook Pro's having an Express Card slot. This late 2008 MacBook Pro is the only 15.4" uni-body MacBook Pro that has an Express Card slot. Following this model, Apple replaced the Express Card slot with a SD card slot.
You can put an Express Card in that has a SD card slot, but if you only have a SD card slot, an SD card is the only thing you can put in it. I own 5 Express Cards, including one with a SD Card Slot. I have an Express Card that has an e-sata port, and 4 USB 2.0 ports, all of which I use most of the time.
I have maxed out all of the MacBook Pro's I have owned. This one allows me to upgrade to 8mb of memory and a 1 TB hard drive. For my use, I prefer this model over a brand new model 15.4" MacBook Pro. I also have Parallels installed with Windows XP. I do video processing on the mac. My 1 TB drive is getting a real workout.
I love this new computer. It's in mint condition and is a huge upgrade from my 13" macbook. The screen resolution is perfect and the new mouse technology is amazing.
It's a delicate balance when shopping in the "Not working For Parts aisle" you're really not sure in most cases what kind of minor or major catastrophe awaits you and by nature of the sale being specifically "Damaged Goods" it's very literally a gamble but as long as one can keep expectations in check and you hopefully find a seller with somewhat decent feedback you can get very lucky like in my recent case where my seller was selling what he described was a machine that was not functional but had cosmetically decent grades.
Indeed I received a machine with the cosmetic exterior of one that was not only much younger but one that for all other matter would fit right in among machines at least 3+ years younger.
At that point I knew all I needed to do as a trained apple technician was go about finding the internal malfunction/s and set a course of actionable checks until such problems were revealed and then if economically viable any possible repairs could then be ordered executed and ideally in my case within budget and I'm more than pleased to say all of these steps went flawlessly and I now have good as new 2008 Macbook Pro that could easily stand next to machines half it's age with cosmetics and general health.
