This MacBook Pro is one of the last made that still had a removable battery. It also features an ExpressCard slot and dual video cards. And this is a 15" model by the way. Now, all 15" MacBook Pros come with non-removable batteries, NO ExpressCard slot, and either an integrated or stand-alone graphics card. For me, this older generation is the last true laptop Apple made before deciding to make all of its laptops giant iPods.
I have been a PC guy for many years, even though I had an Apple 2E as my first computer. It occurred to me as I was spending HOURS loading, upgrading, tweaking security programs, that there must be a better way. I bought subject MacBook Pro and was delightfully surprised. This laptop is slim, light, precision built and practically virus proof. The operating system is Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and the machine is up and running in about 50 seconds after a cold start. The latest Macs use the Intel multi core components and are fast. The biggest advantage is the notable absence of bloatware needed by the PCs for virus, spyware, worm etc. protection.
I am just starting to experience the Mac world, but I must say, so far I am impressed. The MacBook Pro will perform as well as any PC I have experienced and has been less likely to have freezes, shutdowns and other unpleasant events.
Try one. I'll bet you'll like it.

This is not an attempt to denigrate my PC. Several years ago my workplace switched us all to PCs, where I had spent most of my life (well, from the release of the very first Macs) working on Macintosh computers. In November, with changes at work, we were required to acquire our own Macintosh and I looked to Ebay as an outlet to do so at a reasonable price. Initially I looked at the 13 inch Macbook Pro, but opted instead for the 15.4 model. While I have gained an appreciation over the past few years for the capabilities of the PC platform, I am an individual who does a great deal of desktop publishing and photography. Macintosh just seems to meet my needs better and allows me to accomplish my assignments much more easily. The multimedia capabilities are almost endless, especially in education, which is another reason I am pleased to be back working with the Macintosh.
Frankly, I carry both computers in my briefcase. With my new Mac having a dual processor I know I will eventually be able to transfer my PC material to my Mac and run it natively, but for now, both computers have become fast friends and I want to keep them close.
I LOVE my Macbook Pro! One of the best purchases I've ever made! It's simple to use and has a ton of extra features that a regular PC wouldn't have like the trackpad and Safari browser, etc. If you are thinking about getting one, it won't disappoint. The one I got is a late 2008 model and is very comparable to the newer models. I like the fact that it has a removable battery so that if it runs down I can always replace it and have a back-up battery. The speed of the laptop is superb. I was having to use an 8 year old dinosaur Dell desktop that was on it's last leg. The superior quality and user-friendly interface of my Macbook is light-years ahead of my old PC. Highly recommend it!
I bought the MacBook Pro 15.4 inch after seeing it at the Apple Store. My Windows based laptop was just running too slow and the user interface of the MacBook is so much better, especially with the glass trackpad.
Likes: It's cool, It's fast, great user interface
Dislikes: Needs Windows to run a lot of programs that I was used to. Have to relearn keyboard shortcuts, Interfacce with Office is there, but is somewhat hindered.
