I've seen many people complain about these laptops, and I don't understand why. Although they may not have needed what it provides, I bought a 13.3" retina macbook pro a few months ago and it's the best purchase i've ever made. In my line of work/studies, I need a fast and reliable laptop that'll do just about anything, and this is perfect for it. I have OS X , Windows and Linux running on it as I use each almost everyday, and it handles the load perfectly.
In comparison to a Windows laptop, the battery-life beats it hands down when using memory-heavy programs, and there is no noise whatsoever from the fans (at first I was worried they weren't working due to the silence)
The screen's resolution is phenomenal , and there is no comparison to any other laptop.
The backlit-keyboard makes using the laptop in the dark very easy, and the design of the keyboard makes it very difficult to mis-type.
The features in OSX are very useful, but I would suggest that only tech-savvy people buy one, as they do cost a lot of money. To get value-for-money, you need to know how to put it to it's best potential. (best suggestion is to get VMWare and install Windows for some applications)
I think the only thing I dislike about it is the heat-dissipation it uses, as the entire casing is used to dissipate the heat. Sometimes this causes a bit of discomfort when you have it resting on your knees. (and I'm not a mac fanboy, I have used windows for over 10, and continue to use it. This is just a friggin' awesome laptop!)
I bought this product thinking that I may like the Apple brand computers as much as I like the Iphone series. However after resetting the PRAM a hundred times and comparing it to my older laptop thats just over a year old the value for the money wasn't worth it.
Spending the same amount on a PC instead of this Mac junk I could get a 3x better machine with a 17.5 inch screen. Double the ram preinstalled on the machine. The HDD alone on this thing is laughable.
For the price I believe a machine with an i7 is a must. Basically this is a machine for the people that love to pay more for way less.
Some good things about this machine is it does have awesome battery life but thats mainly because it doesn't have much hardware to actually keep running.. >_> Weights next to nothing so thats also a plus if you plan on using it in a college enviornment having to carry it around to classes and such however most college students don't want to drop this kind of cash on something with a tiny HDD like this. Downloaded games, movies, and music would destroy this little thing in a matter of weeks for the serious users.
I used to have a 13" MacBook Pro. Paid almost $1400 at the apple store. It looked sleek, really good battery life and was very easy to use, but it was way over priced for the internals. I sold it on Craigslist for $800 a year later and bought a Lenovo Y580 for only $800 (even trade). Instead of a duel core i5 with integrated graphics and 3MB cache, 4GB of memory and a 13" screen for $1400, my Lenovo has an i7 eight core processor 6MB cache, 660m GTX nvidia graphics card, 8GB of memory and a 15" screen for $800. In summary, it was fine for writing papers, listening to music and surfing the web, but I will not buy another one simply because it was priced entirely too high for what I got. Also, it could not run any of the games I wanted to run due to the processor capability and integrated graphics.
I purchased this Mac for my college-age son. He absolutely loves it!I am told it is a wonderful and poweful computer that is able to do anything he wishes. Amazing graphics and incredibly fast from start-up.
I use it in my work every day. It is easy to carry and very clear to see the films I must show my team.
