First off, I really love this monitor. I much prefer a single large monitor over a dual setup, and moving to a 24" monitor to this 30" monitor was the right choice for me. I work heavily with photos and the new Apple glossy screens are terrible from my experiences. I opted to buy the older 30" since Apple no longer offers matte screens (a bad decision on their part).
Things I really like: the enormous resolution, 2 USB ports on the rear of the monitor, the matte screen, and sleek design.
Now the downsides: the cable is permanently attached to the monitor. If the power or DVI connector gets broken you basically have to send the ENTIRE monitor in for repair. Very poor design choice. Also the fact that the screen is older and is not LED back-lit is a drag, but not something that would prevent me from buying it. Such a large resolution is also prone to having a bad pixel or two...I have a few stuck pixels that have been there since I bought it, and there's just about nothing I can do about it besides try and buy another one. The fact that they are there bothers me, but they do not interfere with my user of the monitor.
Overall I give it a B+ rating. I really wish Apple would make a newer version of this monitor that wasn't glossy and had iSight. That would be perfect. Otherwise, this is the best thing out there at a reasonable price.
No question about it increased work space increases productivity. I purchased this second 30" Cinema Display to meet the demands of a major project where the additional display will provide 2 times the work space. I don't know why I didn't do it sooner and am now contemplating a 3rd display. A major consideration for a used Apple Cinema Display was it's matt finish. Virtually all the reviews of the newer Apple Displays caution about eye strain for those spending many hours a day on their displays such as graphic designers or statisticians. The 30 inch Cinema Display is still the best all around option particularly in an Apple environment.
Fantastic picture quality, low on calibration features. Best backlight of any non LED screen. Apple stopped selling these, which is a shame because I think most professionals preferred this to the glossy smaller 27" display.
Price point now that they are only available used, is pretty reasonable.
What can I say... This display is simply the best I've seen. I liked it so much, I now ace two! Crazy, I know - dual 30" monitors - it makes picture and photo editing am absolute breeze.
I love the size and the amount of screen real estate this thing gives you.
It is fantastic in every sense of the word. While buying it new takes a bite out of the wallet you can pick them up for reasonable prices if gently used. Nothing else like this on the market...30 inch monitors are the only way to go.
