I live the compact size which makes it easy to take with you when you travel. I also love the features like being able to stream music from your pc or mac to it with speakers or stereo connected to it! I do recommend however that you splurge for the stereo connection kit for better sound quality. You can also connect a printer to it so that you can print wirelessly as well. What I didn't like, was that it was easy to set up when you create a separate network with it but when you try to connect it to the network you already have in place it's pretty hard for your average joe. I got several error messages when trying to play music through the connected stereo. Once I reset the unit then created a separate network it was as easy as pie and no problems what so ever. Once you have one and its set up you can by more and place them in all the rooms in your house and control them all with your mac or pc. It's a must buy for those considering buying one of those Sonos systems or anything similar. It's cheaper.
Very versatile 802.11 device. Can be used as a router, wireless access point, or relay, and in addition, it has an output for streaming music to your HIFI system Setup is by software you run on your MAC or PC, and is pretty straightforward. It has wireless n protocol, so all your apple devices will be upgraded in speed if you are replacing a g or b device. It also has wireless a so if you need to dodge all the wireless 2.4 GHz phones in your apartment complex, this is a godsend. I use it as a wireless access point and stream music from ITunes right to it, and it sounds just like the cd's I uploaded to iTunes, and it will also stream wirelessly from your iPad or iPod if they have music loaded on them. It is configurable to the point that you can suppress broadcast of the SSID, too. Only drawback about the whole thing is that you can't configure it with a web browser--it has to be done with the software running on your host PC or MAC.
EXCELLENT refers to the price point for this base station. I received it in the mail very quickly. This device is so cool, I use it as a print server as well as an access node. Now I can print from anywhere in the house. In addition, I extended the range with an Airport Express I also bought on eBay. The two together were cheaper than a new Base Station. So I get the best of Apple's products at a fraction of the price. Works like a charm!
Love the product, but apple, please make it able to disk share..but i love the streaming of music to my speakers, why cant apple come up with a beautiful program like airfoil. a must have if u have a airport express, streams music from all programs! lol
I am using it as an add-on to an existing (wired) network. Easy to set up. Can also be used to make a USB-only device (for ex. a printer) available over your local network.
It replaces an older version of AirPort Express (wireless-G), which still works very well.
